NFL FanDuel Pricing Reaction: 8 Underpriced Players for Week 1
Dion Lewis, RB, New England Patriots
FanDuel Price: $6,200
Dion Lewis played in seven games last season and averaged 14.6 FanDuel points -- the sixth-most among running backs who played at least seven games. He finished the season priced at $7,400, and his cost didn't dip below $7,000 over his final three healthy weeks.
Despite this, he comes into Week 1 with a serious injury discount at a price of $6,200. His ADP is the 16th running back, yet he is priced as the 26th-most expensive back.
Assuming he is healthy in Week 1, he'll likely be a terrific value play. He's also interesting from a game script perspective, because this will be Jimmy Garoppolo's first career start. You can tell yourself a pretty convincing story in which the Pats are not eager to test Arizona's elite defensive backs down the field, instead having Garoppolo depend on Lewis as a safety-valve dump-off option. If this turns out to be the case, a healthy Lewis could pile up the targets, especially if Julian Edelman isn't fully recovered from his offseason surgery.
New England against Arizona has a pretty solid over/under at 48, and the Patriots' implied total is 21.5. If New England is going to put up that many points, Lewis will likely be a large part of doing so. At his discounted price tag, he could end up being one of the best value plays on the board.
