The Super Bowl is a single-game slate, so DraftKings uses the increasingly popular Showdown contest format -- any six players, regardless of position, while staying within the $50,000 salary cap. Kickers and team defensive units are included in the player pool. A valid lineup must contain a player from each team, the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams. Also know that the "captain" position increases the player's cost 1.5-times while boosting their fantasy points scored by the same multiplier.

Now, let's go through some of the top plays for Super Bowl LIII on DraftKings.

Julian Edelman ($10,800): As the most expensive player on the Super Bowl slate, Julian Edelman could prove difficult to get overweight on. That's especially true for those considering placing Edelman into the captain slot at an even steeper price tag. Over his last seven games, Edelman has been remarkably consistent, averaging 10.3 targets, 7.2 receptions, 93.7 yards, and 20.6 DraftKings points per game. On only one occasion during that span -- a 38-3 blowout victory in the regular season finale -- did Edelman fail to see double-digit targets. Since becoming a full-time player back in 2013, Edelman has been a monster producer in the postseason. Through 12 playoff games, he's averaged eight receptions per game for nearly 100 yards on close to a dozen targets.

Tom Brady ($10,600): Based on numberFire's schedule-adjusted metrics, the pass defense of the Rams is the strongest form of opposition in this Super Bowl matchup. In the NFC title game, the Rams limited Drew Brees to 249 yards on 40 attempts in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. As for Tom Brady, he ended a fairly pedestrian regular season on a high note, a season-high four touchdowns in the finale. More recently, Brady has exceeded 340 passing yards in both of his 2019 playoff games. Brady only managed one touchdown in each of those contests but has attempted more than 40 passes in back-to-back games for the first time all year. According to Sharp Football Stats, the Rams' pass defense ranked fifth in passing success rate, yet were 23rd in explosive passing. As an offense, the Patriots were 3rd and 11th in those categories.

Todd Gurley ($9,000): After a knee issue and multiple weeks of rest to conclude the regular season, Todd Gurley appeared to operating at a high level once again in the divisional playoff round against the Dallas Cowboys. Teammate C.J. Anderson had a huge day against Dallas, while Gurley ran 16 times for 115 yards and a touchdown. However, Gurley struggled out of the gate in the NFC title game on the ground while also dropping a pass that caused an interception, leaving him benched as Anderson eked out 44 yards on 16 carries. New England's run defense checks in at 13th by our metrics despite allowing a near-league leading 4.8 yards per carry. In fact, New England allowed the most rushing yards to opposing running backs among the 12 teams that faced fewer than 325 attempts. Gurley has been off the injury report for a while now, yet will be under-owned as a result of Anderson's recent play.

James White ($7,200): For the same salary, you can play either James White in the captain spot or Edelman at his regular price. White hasn't played on more than 50 percent of the snaps since Week 12, yet keeps finding ways to score fantasy points. In fact, over these seven most recent contests, White is averaging 14.1 DraftKings points per game while rolling up 67.9 yards of offense on only 9.9 touches. Two years ago, White scored three touchdowns in Super Bowl LI during an MVP-level performance and continued to excel in the postseason last year, scoring four touchdowns in three games. Teammate Sony Michel has scored five touchdowns over the last two weeks and comes at small savings of $400. He's rarely targeted and loses snaps to Rex Burkhead, who looks like a great value at only $4,800.

Josh Reynolds ($5,400): If Bill Belichick finds a way to make the Rams play left handed, expect Josh Reynolds to produce in the box score. In the AFC title game, it was Sammy Watkins (8 targets, 4 receptions, 114 yards) that led the Kansas City Chiefs in receiving as Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce will held in check. Keenan Allen only caught two passes in the divisional round and was out-targeted by both Tyrell Williams and Mike Williams. The postseason has seen a slight downtick in snaps for Reynolds in favor of the tight ends. But should Brandin Cooks or Robert Woods find themselves neutralized, Reynolds -- who we have projected for double-digit DraftKings points -- could prove to be an excellent value.

Chris Hogan ($3,800): Even though Phillip Dorsett has scored a touchdown in three consecutive games, Chris Hogan -- who costs $400 less -- is clearly New England's secondary wide receiver. Hogan has doubled Dorsett in snaps during each playoff game thus far and has out-targeted him 23 to 13 during the scoring streak. After a quiet postseason last year, Hogan went off for 128 yards and scored a touchdown in Super Bowl LII. Hogan is one of the biggest disappointments from a fantasy perspective this year, yet could very well smash this super cheap price tag with another big championship game performance.
