3 Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Options for Week 3
Quarterback streaming isn't for everyone, but if you're in a standard league -- like a 10- or 12-team league that features just one starting signal caller -- grabbing productive quarterbacks who have good matchups off the waiver wire is often doable.
Sure, you won't have the luxury of setting it and forgetting it with Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback, but when the top-end signal callers draw a tough matchup, their upside can oftentimes be matched by a waiver-wire option in a more favorable situation.
In Week 2, we got our second straight top-12 performance to start the season as Andy Dalton put up 18.64 points to finish as the week's QB10. That gives us 46.24 points for the year, good enough for the overall QB5.
If you're looking for some quarterback options from the waiver wire -- regardless of league size -- we have you covered. Here are three quarterbacks owned in fewer than roughly 30% of Yahoo! leagues who are in good spots this week.
Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts
Yahoo Ownership: 13%
Despite opening the season with two road games, Jacoby Brissett has fared well in fantasy, scoring 16.50 points at the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 before registering 16.34 points at the Tennessee Titans last week.
In Week 3, Brissett has what is his most favorable matchup thus far -- a home game against the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta has a fairly average defense, per our schedule-adjusted numbers, so this isn't some cakewalk, but we have Brissett as the week's QB18. That doesn't sound super fun, but it's a rough week for streaming unless Josh Allen -- more on him shortly -- is sitting on your waiver wire.
Brissett was a much better performer at home when he was the Indianapolis Colts' quarterback in 2017. At Lucas Oil that year, he averaged 209.9 passing yards per game while averaging just 177.4 passing yards on the road. On top of that, all four of his rushing scores that season came at home.
On a week without any great streamers (unless Allen is free in your league), Brissett is the top option as we project him for 16.83 fantasy points.
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Yahoo Ownership: 41%
Allen is owned in too many leagues to be eligible to be our top streamer, but with him unowned in almost 60% of leagues, I wanted to touch on him. If he's free in your league and you need quarterback help this week, he should be a priority add.
We know what Allen is -- an erratic passer who likes to throw deep and has great running ability. That's an iffy combination for real-life football, but it's pretty darn great for fantasy. Allen thrived as a fantasy producer as a rookie, and he's kept it going in 2019, posting outputs of 15.96 and 22.22 points through two games.
He's got a rushing score in each outing, and over his last eight starts, he's gone for fewer than 15 fantasy points just once, with three games of at least 25 points. Over 14 career games, Allen has either 20 rushing yards or a rushing touchdown in 13 outings.
In a home game with the Cincinnati Bengals, a defense that just got torched by the San Francisco 49ers, Allen is this week's QB6, per our models.
Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions
Yahoo Ownership: 36%
This one is a little scary as Matthew Stafford at the Philadelphia Eagles could go poorly. But this Philly D hasn't looked all that great through two weeks, and our models give them the sixth-worst pass defense thus far. Matt Ryan got to them for 320 yards and three scores (and three picks) last week while Case Keenum put up 380 yards and three tuddies at Philly in the opener.
After a 27.6-fantasy-point game at the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, Stafford had a tougher time in Week 2 versus the Chargers, finishing with 15.1 points.
While we have Stafford as just the QB24 this week, there's some reason for optimism here with the Eagles' secondary struggling and the Detroit Lions a touchdown underdog, meaning they should have to go to the air often.
