4 NFL FanDuel Value Plays to Target in Week 9
Identifying key value plays are of paramount importance when it comes to daily fantasy football. Matt Moore, QB, Kansas City Chiefs ($6,500)
What I love about Matt Moore is that we have seen him as a starter here and there over the years. He is not just some random backup quarterback or rookie getting his shot. For all intents and purposes, he is a veteran.
While he did not light up the world in his first game as a starter for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8, he was very respectable under center. He finished the game 24-of-36 and threw for 267 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. For DFS purposes, that is a great stat line!
In Week 9, the Chiefs are hosting the visiting Minnesota Vikings. Currently, the Chiefs are 2.5-point underdogs with a 22.75 point implied team total. That certainly isn't the best indicator of future success, but with the weapon surrounding Moore, he is in a position to succeed every time he starts for Kansas City.
Truly, he does not even need to be sharp from behind center. If Tyreek Hill catches a bubble screen and turns it up field for a 70-yard touchdown, Moore looks good. If Travis Kelce rumbles and tumbles his way to a massive day working the middle of the field, Moore looks good. If Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, or Mecole Hardman get over the top on the defense, Moore looks good.
Did I paint a pretty enough picture? At just $6,500, Moore is brimming with upside not because of his talent, but because of the bevy of playmakers that surround him.
Jamaal Williams, RB, Green Bay Packers ($5,400)
The Green Bay Packers are a 3.0-point road favorite and have the third-highest implied team total at 25.50 points as they travel to face the Los Angeles Chargers. There are going to be fantasy points scored in this game as both teams have several fantastic tournament options.
My favorite from this game might be very low owned, too. Jamaal Williams is just $5,400 on FanDuel in Week 9.
That seems like an absolute steal for a guy who has scored 11.60, 9.60, 21.60, 11.10, and 17.10 FanDuel points in the five game he has finished (I took out the game that he hurt himself). That is plenty of upside and a surprisingly decent floor for a guy that cheap.
Since coming back from injury, Williams has scored at least one touchdown in all three games and has four total over that game span. In addition to his one rushing touchdown, he has three receiving touchdowns and one in each of the last three games. He is scoring in so many ways.
His snap share has been strong, too. The Packers clearly are looking for playmakers with their wide receiving corps looking like the Walking Dead at this point in the season. Jamaal has played 35, 35, 39, 24, and 32 snaps in all five games that he finished. The more he's on the field, the more often the Packers will ask him to make plays. I love this price tag for tournaments.
D.J. Moore, WR, Carolina Panthers ($5,400)
The Carolina Panthers have a very difficult matchup against the visiting Tennessee Titans defense. The Panthers have a 22.25 point implied team total and are 3.5-point favorites. Not a lot of scoring is being projected to happen in this contest. That's okay for DFS purposes, though, because of the price tag that D.J. Moore carries in Week 9.
His $5,400 salary is amazing for tournaments. He is someone who can take the ball the distance if he gets a little wiggle room after the catch. He also receives plenty of opportunities in every game. Similar to Jamaal Williams, he has a pretty decent floor for being $5,400, which is a price tag that often indicates a very volatile player.
Moore has scored 9.10, 13.40, 12.90, 5.90, 12.10, 12.10, and 6.30 FanDuel points in the eight games the Panthers have played this season. He has received eight or more targets in 6-of-8 games, too. There is a decent floor here with plenty of upside if he can get in the end zone (which he has only done once in 2019).
Noah Fant, TE, Denver Broncos ($4,600)
Okay, this player option is not going to be an easy one to click on. But if he has a good game, there is a chance you'll get him at very low single-digit ownership. There is also a lot of reason to be excited about the prospect of Noah Fant.
In the first game without Emmanuel Sanders, Fant ended up being the secondary target for Joe Flacco. Noah was targeted a very healthy eight times in Week 8. At just $4,600, it would be nearly impossible to find a tight end around his price tag with that kind of target volume.
It makes sense, too. Noah is incredibly athletic and can make plays after the catch. Barring he does not drop a few passes, Fant has a chance to exceed expectations against the visiting Cleveland Browns.
Also, with Joe Flacco potentially out for the rest of the season, Brandon Allen has been named the starter in Week 9. Young quarterbacks often turn into checkdown masters, leading to increased target volume for tight ends and running backs.
Is Fant a volatile option? Absolutely, there is no denying that. But in tournaments, he warrants consideration for your tight end spot.
