3 Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Options for Week 2

Quarterback streaming isn't for everyone, but if you're in a standard league -- like a 10- or 12-team league that features just one starting signal caller -- grabbing potentially productive quarterbacks in good matchups off the waiver wire is often doable.

Sure, you won't have the luxury of setting it and forgetting it with Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback, but when the top-end signal callers draw a tough matchup, their upside can oftentimes be matched by a waiver-wire option in a more favorable situation.

If you're looking for some quarterback options from the waiver wire -- regardless of league size -- we have you covered. Here are three quarterbacks rostered in fewer than roughly 30% of Yahoo leagues who are in good spots this week.

Mitchell Trubisky, Bears

Yahoo Roster Percentage: 4%

Moving Mitchell Trubisky into your quarterback slot isn't going to give you good feels, but he's a great streaming option in Week 2. And with Trubisky being almost universally available in Yahoo leagues in addition to, you know, being Mitchell Trubisky, you can probably get him without burning any FAAB.

Trubisky is at home against the New York Giants, the league's sixth-worst pass D by our schedule-adjusted metrics. Our model projects Trubisky for 17.86 fantasy points, making him our QB12 for the week -- ahead of the likes of Cam Newton, Ben Roethlisberger and Matthew Stafford.

It wasn't always pretty for Trubisky in Week 1 at the Detroit Lions, but he ended with 242 passing yards and 3 touchdowns en route to 24.28 fantasy points, which checked in as the QB7.

The Bears have a respectable 24.50-point implied total in Week 2 as 5.5-point home favorites versus the G-Men. Seeing Trubisky run for 26 yards in Week 1 is a good sign as he surpassed that mark just twice in 2019 after doing so six times in 2018. If he's going to get back to running, it lifts both his weekly floor and ceiling.

Ryan Tannehill, Titans

Yahoo Roster Percentage: 45%

Ryan Tannehill surprisingly threw the ball 43 times in Week 1, and it wasn't like the Tennessee Titans got in a huge hole. While we can't expect that kind of volume from him every week, he can be efficient with the passes that are called this week in a home date with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jags were expected to be one of the worst defenses in the league this season -- our algorithm ranked them 10th-worst in pass D -- and they didn't do much in Week 1 to make anyone think otherwise as they let the Philip Rivers (363 passing yards) and the Indianapolis Colts move the ball well.

My lone hesitation with Tannehill this week is that Tennessee is a huge 10.5-point favorite, which will likely lead to a run-heavy offense. In 2019, Tannehill attempted just 21.0 passes per game in his eight wins as a starter, compared to 29.5 attempts in four losses.

But the hope is that Tannehill tosses a couple scores while the Titans are in the process of getting a lead -- something that happened a bunch during his 2019 breakout as he averaged two passing tuddies per game in wins.

Tennessee's 26.50-point implied total is a number we can feel great about, and Tannehill is also a decent runner, racking up four rushing scores in 2019.

All in all, Tannehill's expected lack of volume makes his floor a bit scary, but we project him for 16.68 points as our QB16.

Kirk Cousins, Vikings

Yahoo Roster Percentage: 34%

Gardner Minshew threw one incomplete pass against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, going 19 for 20 with 173 yards and 3 scores. Does that say more about Minshew or the Colts' defense? Time will tell. But if the answer is the Colts' D, Kirk Cousins could feast this week at Indy.

Cousins threw for 259 yards and 2 touchdowns in a season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers, finishing as Week 1's QB10, and he did it on just 25 pass attempts.

While the sample size is only six games, Cousins has shredded in retractable roof stadiums in his career, averaging 286.6 yards per game and totaling 13 scores (plus a rushing tud). He averaged 8.1 more pass attempts per game in losses in 2019 than he did in victories, and Minnesota is a 3.0-point 'dog.

Our model forecasts Cousins for 16.67 points in Week 1, which ranks him as our QB17.

And I also don't mind the aforementioned Rivers on the flip side of this game. The Minnesota Vikings were blow-torched by Aaron Rodgers in Week 1 while Rivers attempted 46 passes (second-most of Week 1) and threw for 363 yards (third-most) in his Colts debut. As a 3.0-point home favorite, Indy holds a 25.25-point implied total.
