3 Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Options for Week 10

Can we just all agree Week 9 never happened? Good. Great. Let's move on.

Time to look at quarterback streaming options for your season-long lineups.

Quarterback streaming isn't for everyone, but if you're in a standard league -- like a 10- or 12-team league that features just one starting signal caller -- grabbing potentially productive quarterbacks in good matchups off the waiver wire is often doable. For some roster constructions, it can even be optimal.

Sure, you won't have the luxury of setting it and forgetting it with Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback, but when the top-end signal-callers draw a tough matchup, their upside can oftentimes be matched by a waiver-wire option in a more favorable situation.

Throughout the season, this column should, will, and must be your go-to resource for identifying quarterbacks to stream in a pinch. I'll recommend quarterbacks rostered in fewer than roughly 50% of Yahoo leagues who are in solid spots this week.

Week 9 Recap and Situations to Monitor

It's hard to grade Week 9's streaming article. Taysom Hill surprisingly didn't get the start, as he was still eased back in after a month-long concussion, and Tua Tagovailoa was a surprise late-week scratch due to a finger injury. That left us just Daniel Jones, who was efficient but needed just 20 pass attempts, as the New York Giants rode the ground game to victory.

There are several injury situations developing at quarterback. The most notable is Kyler Murray, who is still up in the air for Week 10. As was the case last week, Murray managers need to have a backup plan in place. We'll need to monitor the injury/Covid reports on Tua Tagovailoa, Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers, Mike White, and Trevor Lawrence throughout the week.

Russell Wilson managers can rejoice, as he is all set to return against the Green Bay Packers this week. If Aaron Rodgers is cleared in time, that game should be a shootout.

We'll be missing Joe Burrow, Tyrod Taylor, Daniel Jones, and Justin Fields to byes this week, as well.

Let's aim for more streaming goodness in Week 10!

Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars

Roster Percentage: 37%

As mentioned above, we need to keep tabs on Trevor Lawrence's injury reports this week. Though he did leave Week 9's game with an ankle injury, he promisingly returned and gutted out the final snaps of the Jacksonville Jaguars' shocking upset victory. Ian Rapoport reports Lawrence "should be fine this week."

The matchup against the Indianapolis Colts is exploitable: the Colts have allowed the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. That stat is even worse when you consider they've faced Jacoby Brissett, Davis Mills, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Josh Johnson already this year.

Indianapolis ranks 25th in schedule-adjusted defense, per numberFire’s metrics. Notably, however, the Colts grade 2nd against the run but a measly 31st against the pass, setting up an ideal pass-funnel Lawrence can exploit. This could work in Jacksonville's favor; they rank 12th in neutral situation pass rate since Week 6.

With Jacksonville entering as 10-point underdogs facing an elite run defense, they'll be forced to throw plenty inside the Colts' dome. Lawrence comes with a low floor, but there is an avenue to his biggest ceiling performance of the season this week.

Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers

Roster Percentage: 27%

My vow to you is this is the grossest streaming recommendation of the season. Please bear with me.

For one, Ben Roethlisberger gets to play against the Detroit Lions. Detroit ranks dead last in schedule-adjusted defense, per numberFire’s metrics. They do, however, rank a respectable 16th against the run, but -- you guessed it -- last against the pass. Based on the matchup, we should be looking at Big Ben's most efficient game of the season.

Then there's the team environment. The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the week with an implied team total of 25.75, which is simply higher than any other streaming option will sniff this week. Vegas is expecting Pittsburgh to score plenty of points, which should benefit Roethlisberger.

It's notable that with Eric Ebron sidelined the past two weeks, rookie stud Pat Freiermuth has stepped in and scored three touchdowns over that span. With Freirmuth on the field more, Roethlisberger finally has a go-to end zone target he can trust in contested catch situations. That should help boost his touchdown expectation, as well.

To be clear, we're not chasing a high ceiling here. This is a recommendation for fantasy managers with a strong team -- perhaps looking to replace Burrow -- who are looking to secure a floor to keep them afloat. Roethlisberger has scored at least 14.5 fantasy points in five of eight games this year. Here's betting he continues that and sets his season high in points this week against Detroit.

Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins

Roster Percentage: 32%

Back to the well with Tua Tagovailoa? We'll see. As mentioned above, Tua was sidelined due to a finger injury. It's notable, however, that he was still available for the team as a backup, meaning the injury wasn't enough to keep him off the active gameday roster.

Despite an easy matchup at home, the Miami Dolphins struggled en route to scoring just 17 points. They'll need more than that to have a chance against the Baltimore Ravens this week as 7.5-point road underdogs.

Should Tua be able to go, there's a lot to like here. The Baltimore Ravens are a pass-funnel defense, checking in 4th against the run but just 22nd against the pass, according to our schedule-adjusted metrics. As a result, Baltimore has allowed the 13th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks despite having faced Jared Goff, Teddy Bridgewater, and Carson Wentz.

In a thin streaming week, Tua has legitimate upside should he get the green light.
