Schefter: Le'Veon Bell released by Jets
New York Jets running back Le'Veon Bell has been released, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Jets were reportedly attempting to trade Bell earlier in the day, following a difficult start to the season for the former Steelers running back. It was always unlikely that Bell would garner much trade interest, and it appears the Jets now agree. His release positions Frank Gore as the Jets' starter and opens up playing time for Josh Adams, La'Mical Perine, and Ty Johnson. Bell's release will cost the Jets $15 million in dead cap space in 2020, and another $4 million in 2021. With their former big-name free agent acquisition now back on the market, the Jets will face the Miami Dolphins in Week 6.
Bell recorded 19 carries for 74 rushing yards and 3 receptions on 3 targets for 39 receiving yards in New York this season, spending three weeks on the injured list with a hamstring issue. In limited action through five weeks, Bell is Pro Football Focus 52nd ranked running back.
