Falcons release Marcus Mariota
The Atlanta Falcons released quarterback Marcus Mariota on Tuesday.
Mariota ended last season on injured reserve after starting the first 13 games of the year. He will likely be picked up as a veteran backup for a team in need. Desmond Ridder is the favorite to be the Falcons' starting quarterback in 2023.
Mariota averaged 0.06 Passing Net Expected Points per dropback and ranked 22nd out of 47 quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts last season. Ridder averaged 0.03 Passing NEP and placed 27th in that same group.
