Chargers' Antonio Gates has career tight end touchdown record in sights
San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said one goal of the 2016 season is to get tight end Antonio Gates at least eight touchdowns to break Tony Gonzalez's tight end touchdowns record.
With 104 career touchdowns, Gates needs just eight more scores to pass Gonzalez's mark of 111. This would be sixth among all positions and first among tight ends. Considering Gates was still able to score five times last season despite missing the first four games and limping through the second half of the calendar with a sprained MCL, there's a decent chance he breaks the record, even at age 36.
Our algorithms project Gates for 72 receptions for 832 yards receiving and 5.99 touchdowns in 2016.
