Cameron Brate emerging as favorite target for Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate is "pretty clear[ly]" one of Jameis Winston's favorite targets, according to ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine.
Laine says the 25-year-old Harvard grad "has been the most consistent" tight end in camp and is "catching virtually everything" thrown his way. While Brate lacks the athletic abilities of teammate and 2014 second-round pick Austin Seferian-Jenkins, he seems to have a firm grip on the number-one tight end gig, at least for now. A strong preseason could put ASJ back in contention to retake the starting spot, but Brate is an intriguing late-round option for those looking to stream the position. Dating back to his career at Florida State, Winston has always displayed a fondness of his tight ends.
Our models currently project Brate behind Seferian-Jenkins entering the season, ranking them 34th and 17th, respectively. We have Brate pegged for 256 yards and 2.89 receiving touchdowns on 19 catches in 2016.
