Chargers' Danny Woodhead still out-snaps Melvin Gordon in Week 1

San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon played just 23-of-73 snaps Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

What It Means:

Gordon was strong in the first half, notching 39 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. In the second half, he took a backseat to Danny Woodhead (50 snaps) with the Chargers playing primarily from the shotgun. Woodhead did not take over until after Keenan Allen (knee) left the game, but with Allen's injury looking like a season-ender, this is a big concern for Gordon moving forward.

Gordon was more efficient on the ground than Woodhead, earning 3.22 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) to Woodhead's 0.89 -- per live.numberfire.com -- due to the touchdowns. Woodhead added 2.90 Reception NEP as well in Week 1.
