Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) is week-to-week for Chargers
San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) is week-to-week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Rapoport called the injury a "hip strain," and said the team is still "gathering info." Head coach Mike McCoy revealed Monday that Gordon has a knee sprain in addition to his hip sprain, and called him only "day to day". Gordon had microfracture surgery in the offseason to boot, so it's not been the easiest health year. If Gordon can't play this week against the Oakland Raiders, rookie Kenneth Farrow would likely be the feature back with Ronnie Hillman spelling him.
Among 57 running backs with at least 50 rushing attempts, Gordon's -0.02 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt ranks 28th. On 20 carries, Farrow has earned -0.08 Rushing NEP per attempt, and Hillman has earned -0.16 Rushing NEP per attempt on 18 totes.
