Texans officially name Tom Savage their starting quarterback
The Houston Texans have named Tom Savage their starting quarterback moving forward.
Part of head coach Bill O'Brien's first draft class, Savage was a much-maligned prospect, but NFL personnel types loved his combination of size and arm strength. He wound up being drafted in the fourth round and has posted eight touchdowns with one interception over the last two preseasons. Savage has spent three full years in O'Brien's system, so it's entirely possible that they have something with him.
Savage accumulated 7.39 Net Expected Points (NEP) on 36 passing attempts in Week 15, per numberFire Live. Prior to getting the hook, ex-starter Brock Osweiler stumbled to -8.82 Passing NEP on 11 throws.
