Malik McDowell will play defensive end for Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive lineman Malik McDowell will play some defensive end, head coach Pete Carroll said.
"He played inside a lot (in college). He was over the center a lot, and he doesn’t look like that kind of player in our system to us," Carroll said. "We’ll play him at five-technique and three-technique and see how that goes." It sounds like the Seahawks think McDowell can play Michael Bennett's role in their defense. As long as Bennett is around, McDowell will be relegated to a sub-package rusher.
The Seahawks' defense ranked just 15th last season in opponent-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points per play.
