NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 10/24/18
A good chunk of you probably already play daily fantasy football, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?
It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel, because it's a ton of fun. And our analysis and projections can help you win.
To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.
Goalie to Target
Marc-Andre Fleury ($8,100): Even as heavy 1.5-goal favorites, the Vegas Golden Knights show some lower point potential. The problem lies in Vancouver's shot volume, which comes in at a meager 25 per contest. The one good aspect is their 12% shooting rate is unsustainable given their talent. And Fleury's price is not indicative of his form. As far as cash plays, this option is a good one for the price. His ownership rate should climb into the double-digits. Watch for word on Robin Lehner at $7,700, as he could be a cash or tournament play due to the Florida Panthers' high-event tendencies and playing on zero rest..
High-Priced Skaters
Nathan MacKinnon ($8,800): The Colorado Avalanche forwards enjoy a beneficial matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning, while the Avalanche top-line is on fire. MacKinnon ownership will be interesting because of Tampa Bay's star power along with the Toronto/Winnipeg clash. Do not sleep on the New York Islanders -Florida Panthers game either. But the Colorado center has 15 real-world points in 9 games,and 8 goals on 40 shots. While there are better stacking options out there, MacKinnon can be paired with a cheap Colorado defenseman or one can risk the first line anyway ($22,600 price tag). Other potentially high-owned centers include Auston Matthews and John Tavares.
Jon Audy-Marchessault ($7,300): Marchessault appears to be a wise choice against a Vancouver Canucks team that can get cratered possession-wise on the road. The Golden Knights' forward should be moderately owned, but a player like William Karlsson will not be, adding to the stacking appeal here. Marchessault fired off more than 20 FanDuel points in three of his last four games and 35+ in the last two. The Canucks yield 3.22 goals per game on the season and cannot get out of their own way defensively. This game has several stacking choices depending on if Alex Tuch returns tonight. Watching roster changes and line shifts will be vital on this short slate.
Value Skaters
Andrew Ladd ($3,100): Ladd looks like a good punt play tonight against the Florida Panthers. His floor is reasonable and the winger is playing top-six minutes. The forward has four points in four games this season, and he is attempting shots at a decent rate but must hit the net like he did against San Jose. Another inexpensive winger option could be Sven Andrighetto ($3,400), who has speed and a solid floor as a member of the Avalanche.
Ian Cole ($3,700): Cole blocks quite a few shots (24 in 8 games so far) but is also a risk because of his penchant for turnovers and low shot volume. The Colorado defenseman's floor is reasonable only if he blocks shots and generates a few chances. His shot is pretty good, and there is the possibility of more man-advantage time. Wednesday night is full of traps as far as center values go, and defensive prospects are not much better. Treading carefully and playing it safe is key. See if Scott Mayfield ($3,600 -- day to day with a toe laceration) can play or perhaps risking it with Kasperi Kapanen at $4,100.
