NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 10/2/19
A good chunk of you played daily fantasy football this year, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?
It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel because it's a ton of fun.
And our analysis and projections can help you win. To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.
Goalie to Target
Jacob Markstrom ($7,800): The Vancouver Canucks' goalie is expected to face the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. Markstrom enjoyed a nice season with a.goals saved above average of nearly five and a goalie point share that broke double digits for the first time. Edmonton and Vancouver have averaged just 5.5 goals per game combined over their previous four meetings. That bodes well for a lower-scoring contest. With a couple "trap" games on the slate for goaltenders tonight, Markstrom may gain unexpected value because of his slightly lower price. Jordan Binnington ($8,400) presents as a decent priced option as well against the Washington Capitals tonight.
High-Priced Skaters
Connor McDavid ($9,000): The forward plays well with anyone. Initially, McDavid will not play with Leon Draisaitl (both were 100+ point producers) at even-strength. However, on the power-play, there will be opportunities. Vancouver's penalty kill on the road was less than 78% after the All-Star Break. Edmonton's top line will be cheap initially because of who will be flanking his wings. There will be a little more on that in the values section. Several choices among the center position could include Auston Matthews ($8,300), John Tavares ($7,800), and Logan Couture ($7,600) as they enjoy favorable matchups -- particularly Toronto against the Ottawa Senators.
Vladimir Tarasenko ($8,100): Tarasenko enjoys a home matchup against Washington on Wednesday night. The St. Louis Blues will have their banner raising tonight against the team that won the Stanley Cup in 2018. The Capitals allowed 3+ goals in 21 of their final 30 contests last season. Tarasenko closed last year with 33 points in his final 35 games along with generating around four shots a night. Mark Stone ($7,400) and Alex Ovechkin ($8,500) also present solid GPP choices against San Jose and St. Louis, respectively.
Value Skaters
Joakim Nygard ($3,200): Because of the undisclosed injury to Tomas Jurco, Nygard gains the benefit of skating on the left-wing with none other than Connor McDavid. No one knows how long this will last, but Nygard is near-minimum priced on Wednesday night and makes stacking considerably easier. Nygard generated an elevated number of scoring chances in the preseason which drew the notice of the coaching staff. Richard Panik ($3,700) and Drake Batherson ($3,600) might be viable plays for tonight.
Cody Glass ($3,600): Glass expects to play with Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty. He looked good during the pre-season and thrived when centered with the two forwards. Thanks to injuries to Alex Tuch and Cody Eakin, Glass was able to play and generate several scoring chances and has solid assist potential. If Glass is not safe enough, there is always Lars Eller ($4,100) who will get increased minutes due to the suspension of Evgeny Kuznetsov.
