2 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 12/13/19

When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

Colorado Avalanche

With an implied team total sitting at nearly 4.00, the Colorado Avalanche are the best team on the slate.

We have only two games tonight and fading what is clearly the top team doesn't seem like a good idea. They are home favorites, facing a weak defense, and would be good on a 10-game slate. There is no reason to stray away from the best option simply due to the fact there are only two games. Colorado should see significant ownership tonight, specifically their top line and the power-play unit. With only two games, I would guess we see them above 50% owned in tournaments.

That top power-play unit consists of Nathan MacKinnon ($9,100), Mikko Rantanen ($7,900), Gabriel Landeskog ($7,100) and Samuel Girard ($4,100). Expensive, but they have 12 points and 43 shots in their last five games. I see no reason to fade them tonight since they are up against the New Jersey Devils, who are bottom-10 in the league in Corsi Against and have been holding a negative expected goal differential for nearly a month now.

Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars are the other home team tonight, and while they aren't inexpensive, they come in just a bit cheaper compared to Colorado. The first power-play unit for the Stars is pricey, and the idea of taking only part of the stack could work tonight.

With both home teams in spots to pick up the win, you should look to stack one of the goalies with the skaters, giving you four players overall -- the maximum allowed from the same team. Ben Bishop ($9,200) is the most expensive player on the slate and comes in as a -165 favorite. He is legitimately one of the best goalies in the league and picking up the win against the Vegas Golden Knights looks good tonight.

Players to consider adding with Bishop are defender Miro Heiskanen ($5,400), giving you some point-per-dollar upside, as he gets you access to Tyler Seguin ($7,500) if you choose to not actually roster Seguin. Mattias Janmark ($4,100) is on the first forward line with Seguin and Jamie Benn ($6,100) but isn't on the first power-play unit. I like the idea of mixing a few of these players together with Bishop, giving you a strong floor of points, along with access to a ceiling.
