3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Wednesday 11/10/21
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
There are only three games tonight in the NHL, but we can still find some good stacks to roster tonight.
Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild are off to a good start to the season. They are 8-3-0 and have had to deal with some players missing games due to COVID protocols. Now with nearly a full strength lineup, they're in a great spot to score goals tonight.
Kirill Kaprizov ($7,100) is still the most dangerous player on the Wild despite only having two goals this season. He's currently shooting 4.9%, much lower than his 17.2% last season, so he should be due for positive regression. He's still tied for the team lead in points with nine. Mats Zuccarello ($4,700) was one of the players that missed time, but he has seven points in the seven games he has played. These two play together on the power play and are centered by Frederick Gaudreau ($3,700) at even strength.
Minnesota's second line has two players that are on the first power play and are talented enough to warrant rostering. Kevin Fiala ($5,600) has had a brutal start to the season but has two straight 20-goal outputs in shortened seasons, so he should bounce back. Joel Eriksson Ek ($4,700) scored a hat trick earlier in the season and will try to keep improving his offensive game, as he is already considered one of the best defensive centers in the league.
The reason why these Wild players are great plays tonight is because of their opponent. They face the lowly Arizona Coyotes on the road. Arizona did finally get their first win of the season on Saturday but remains at the bottom of the league. They've allowed the most goals per game in the league, allowing four per contest.
You could play Wild's four-man power play unit as a stack that won't break the bank and has great upside against the third-worst penalty kill in the NHL. Jared Spurgeon ($4,700) would be the option at defense if you need to fill that lineup spot. Minnesota's implied team total is the highest on this slate, and they are a great stacking option tonight.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs had a game to forget on Monday. They lost 5-1 at home to the Los Angeles Kings in a game that had many in Toronto scratching their heads. They were able to generate 3.53 expected goals, so that is a positive to take into Wednesday's game.
Auston Matthews ($9,500) got a whopping 13 shot attempts in Monday's game but wasn't able to get one in the net. If he can do something similar tonight, his chances of scoring are pretty high. His linemate, William Nylander ($7,300), has 6 points and 27 shots on goal in his last six games. Michael Bunting ($4,100) remains on this line as the third wheel and offers a nice value.
The Leafs' second line has been even better. John Tavares ($8,600) will be a game-time decision tonight, and if he goes, he'll be a great play, as he has four goals in his last three games. Mitch Marner ($7,700) has been on fire as well, with 12 points during his six-game point streak. Alexander Kerfoot ($3,900) would be the beneficiary if this line produces some goals at even strength.
Toronto's opponent will be the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. The Flyers are getting better goaltending than they were last season, but their defense could still be improved. They rank in the bottom ten in most defensive metrics, including being the second-worst team in expected goals allowed per 60 minutes.
The Leafs always have a lot of upside, and tonight is no different, meaning they are in play as a stack. That could be either as an even-strength line stack or with the big four high-salaried forwards.
Philadelphia Flyers
On the other side of that game, the Flyers will try to hit the Leafs back with some offense of their own. Things have been unusually quiet out of Philadelphia, but that could be because the team has only played 10 games so far this season. Some of their players have been a bit under the radar, and that could change tonight.
The fully-correlated top line for Philly consists of their top three scorers. Sean Couturier ($7,900) and Claude Giroux ($6,600) each have five goals and seven assists so far, tying them for the team lead in points. Travis Konecny ($5,500) is the only player on the team with more than one power play goal, and he loves to shoot the puck. Ivan Provorov ($4,500) has yet to get going offensively this season but is a great value for that salary as someone who will play on this power play unit.
We just saw the Leafs allow five goals to a Kings team whose offense won't scare many clubs. The Flyers can absolutely get to Toronto tonight, so the matchup shouldn't scare anyone off. Of the three teams we like tonight, Philly's top line is the only one that offers full correlation across even strength and on the power play. This is an advantage to stacking them because we are more likely to pick up all three points on a goal with this stack than the others.
