NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Jordan Binnington ($7,900): The St. Louis Blues come in as MASSIVE -360 home favorites, making Binnington a clear top option tonight. Given this soft matchup against the Arizona Coyotes, the Blues have a 78.3% implied win probability, and that should make Binnington a chalky option in all formats. The win points for a goalie are always important, and Binnington will look to pick those up for the first time in his last three starts.
A few rough outings for Binnington can all be forgotten tonight in what should be an easy matchup. The Coyotes come in with a 46.75 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations -- worst in the league. They are also scoring the second-fewest (1.49) Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. It's as soft of a matchup as you could possibly imagine for Binnington with the win waiting for him on a silver platter.
High-Priced Skaters
Kyle Connor ($8,800): With a 6.5-goal total, the Edmonton Oilers at Winnipeg Jets matchup is a perfect spot for fantasy upside. There are 11 games on tonight's NHL slate, but this is one that stands out, and you should be considering it for a game stack. Both the Jets and the Oilers are in the top 11 of the league for the most goals scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. We also see the Oilers allowing a horrible 2.93 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations (third-worst in the league).
Considering the offensive potential Connor brings on a nightly basis, he should be one of the top options on the slate. Connor is on the second forward line and the first power-play unit for the Jets, which has allowed him to rack up 19 NHL points and a staggering 58 shots on goal through only 14 games this season. Connor has immense offensive upside and this matchup should only accentuate it.
Sebastian Aho ($8,400): The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the best offensive teams in the league and are a strong option in all formats. With a 3.14 implied goal total, the Canes are slightly behind some of the top teams on the slate, and if that causes them to go overlooked, it makes them that much better for tournaments. They are on the road to take on the Vegas Golden Knights, who hold a 61.6 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations -- fourth-worst in the league.
For the Canes, they hold the second-best (62.21) Corsi For this season, giving us a matchup of two teams at the opposite ends of the spectrum. With Aho skating on the top forward line and the top power-play for the Canes, he will see plenty of ice time to rack up a strong floor of points due to his shot volume (3.1) per game. He has a high ceiling due to his offensive role.
Value Skaters
Kasperi Kapanen ($4,200): The Pittsburgh Penguins have a slate-high 3.60 implied goal total and should be the chalky option of the night. They have this high implied goal total since they are going up against the Buffalo Sabres, who have allowed four-plus goals in five of their last six games. After a hot start, the Sabres have plummeted back to earth and are a weak defense worth attacking every night. Kapanen is on the second forward line and the second power-play unit, giving him a solid offensive role every night. He comes in with five NHL points and eight shots on goal over his last five games; that is solid production for a player under $5,000.
Joel Eriksson Ek ($4,700): With a 3.37 implied goal total, the Minnesota Wild should be another popular team to target tonight. Eriksson only has 4 NHL points in his last 10 games but has a solid 24 shots on goal and 7 blocked shots. He fills up the stat sheet provides plenty of point-per-dollar value. With his role on the first power-play unit, he can reach for some upside tonight against the weak San Jose Sharks' defense.
