3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Tuesday 1/4/22

In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.

We've got an eight-game slate tonight with lots of interesting stacks, so let's look at the three of the best.

Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche have rarely had a healthy lineup at any point this season. That hasn't hurt their offense though, as they easily lead the league in goals per game (4.21). Now, they get a fantastic matchup to keep scoring on Tuesday.

The Avalanche had their top line reunited and fully healthy for the first time in a while on Sunday. Nathan MacKinnon ($10,400) had three assists and six shots on goal in that game. Mikko Rantanen ($9,800) also had a great game with a goal and two assists and six shots as well. Gabriel Landeskog ($8,800) only had one goal, but he was able to extend his point streak to 11 consecutive games. These players all carry high salaries, but they are arguably the best line stack in fantasy hockey.

Colorado is on the road against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Chicago seemed to turn things around after their disastrous start -- until the last two games. They've been outscored 11-1 since the holiday break, including allowing a whopping 4.21 expected goals against last game.

The Avalanche have the highest implied team total on tonight's slate. You can try to fit in Cale Makar ($7,100) with this stack, as he leads all defensemen with 13 goals. Colorado will certainly be a popular stack -- but for good reason.

Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning are experiencing something this week that has been rare over the past handful of seasons. They haven't won in three games and have allowed a stunning 20 goals in their last four games. They are looking to bounce back on Tuesday and have a good opponent to do it against.

The return of Brayden Point ($7,700) hasn't been the reason for Tampa's funk. He's had 5 points and 15 shots on goal since returning to the lineup. The Lightning did make a change to put him with his normal linemate Ondrej Palat ($6,000), who had five points in three games before the team was shutout on Sunday. The third member of the line is Anthony Cirelli ($4,900) -- definitely capable of contributing on this line.

Point moving up means that Steven Stamkos ($8,300) slides down to the second line. He leads the team with 16 goals and 39 points this season. Third in points is Alex Killorn ($5,700), who also plays on the top power play with Stamkos. The second-leading scorer is defenseman Victor Hedman ($7,000), who's also second among blueliners in points.

Tampa faces off against a familiar foe in the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight; they met in the 2019 and 2020 playoffs and shared a division last season. The Bolts should be able to create offense against the Jackets, who allow the most shots on goal and the fourth-most expected goals on a Per-60-minute basis.

Tampa's implied team total slots in just behind Colorado's for the highest on tonight's slate. You can stack them a few different ways, but the highest-powered, four-man stack is likely Point, Palat, Stamkos and Hedman, which could do damage on the power play.

Detroit Red Wings

Going a bit off the board for the third stack, let's talk about the Detroit Red Wings. They've been surprisingly in the playoff hunt through this point in the season, which most people would not have predicted. A lot of credit has to go to the top line, which makes for a good stack tonight.

The first line has been playing great all season in games where all of them have been active. Dylan Larkin ($7,300) has been playing at a point-per-game pace with 30 points in 30 games. Tyler Bertuzzi ($6,100) comes in just behind him in goals with 13 on the season. The newcomer this season has been impressive rookie, Lucas Raymond ($5,500), who's 28 points could have him as the favorite for the Calder trophy. If it's not him, Moritz Seider ($5,400) has a strong case as well. He is fourth on the team in points as a defenseman, and Seider plays with all three of these guys on the top power play.

Detroit will play the San Jose Sharks tonight at home. The Sharks are going through a weird streak of playing horrible on defense. They've allowed 22 goals in their last four games -- including eight in their most recent game on Sunday. Their defense is an overall issue for the season, too. They have allowed the fourth-most shot attempts per game in the NHL.

Detroit's first line ranks fourth in five-on-five goals among line combinations in the league. Their implied team total doesn't jump off the page, though, which could keep their popularity down. When a line like that has full correlation hits, it could lead to big results in tournaments.
