3 NHL FanDuel Value Plays to Target on Friday 1/14/22
Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal of risk, too. The right low-salary plays can give you good production while affording you more chances to roster high-salary studs.
Friday night has three contests. Let's take a closer look!
Alex Newhook, Center, Colorado Avalanche
FanDuel Salary: $3,900
The salary has stayed pretty steady for Alex Newhook and so have the minutes.
Yes, he has only played 12-13 minutes a night over the last half-dozen games, but the middle-six pivot carries some value on Friday against the Arizona Coyotes.
The Colorado Avalanche have some value plays in a sea of bad options on Friday. Every one of these plays involves more risk than usual because of the shorter slate. If Newhook gets involved early, DFS players will likely be rewarded. In two of the last three games he has recorded two or more shots, Newhook has scored a real-world point.
Options are scarce from the center position on Friday, but Newhook may be the least scary out of the group.
Max Comtois, Wing, Anaheim Ducks
FanDuel Salary: $3,800
Max Comtois is a high-risk option on Friday night versus the Minnesota Wild.
Before the near-doughnut on Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Comtois had a goal and two assists in his previous four contests.
The Anaheim Ducks winger is better at chance creation most of the time compared to getting his shot on the net. Occasionally, he does both well in stretches. For example, he had 11 shots on goal in this span before Tuesday's rough night.
The problem is that Comtois' temper still gets the best of him sometimes, and his game evaporates into nothingness too often.
With Minnesota, like Anaheim, middling around .500 the past 10 games, Comtois is not that bad of a value option.
Brandon Montour, Defenseman, Florida Panthers
FanDuel Salary: $4,200
The pickings are slim on Friday night, but Brandon Montour has a little more offensive potential in his salary bracket.
He has 4 goals and 12 assists in 35 games for the Florida Panthers this season. That included a three-assist effort against the Calgary Flames several games back.
Montour has two shots on goal in each of his last four starts. Florida should have a few more chances against a Dallas Stars team that has just four wins on the road this 2021-22 season.
With COVID cases still very high, do watch for any late-breaking news that would affect projected pairings among value defensemen especially for Friday night.
