3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Friday 1/28/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
There are five games on Friday with some good stacking options, so let's look at some of them.
Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins have been playing well of late. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and look to be locked into a playoff spot. They blew a 3-1 lead on Wednesday, but the matchup gets much easier tonight.
The Bruins have been skating with the same lines for a few weeks now. Patrice Bergeron ($8,200) and Brad Marchand ($9,800) continue to play together as they have for years. Marchand has been in good form of late, with nine goals in his last 10 games. Bergeron has been a little snake-bitten of late, with 41 shots on goal in his last 10 games resulting in just one goal. Craig Smith ($4,000) continues to play with this line, and while he hasn't done much lately, he is a nice value that could pay off because of his linemates.
The second line has two dangerous wingers, with Taylor Hall ($5,900) and David Pastrnak ($8,700). The move to the second line hasn't hurt Pastrnak's production at all, as he has 11 goals and 48 shots on goal in his last 10 games. He'll play with Hall on the top power play, who has nine points in his last 10 games, making him a solid value for just $5,900. Erik Haula ($4,900) is the center on this line and is a good complementary piece like Smith.
Boston is on the road against the Arizona Coyotes tonight. The Coyotes have been the worst or second-worst team all season long. They allow the second-most goals per game and have very little hope of slowing down the Bruins tonight. Boston is the biggest favorite on the night and has an implied team total of 3.68 goals, making them clearly a team we'll want a piece of tonight.
Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild came through big time on Monday night. They won 8-2, bringing their team average for goals per game all the way up to 3.82. That's good for third-best in the league. Tonight might look like a spot to jump off the Wild train, but it's better than it appears at first.
A rising tide that lifts all boats, Kirill Kaprizov ($9,600) has been unreal lately. He has 17 points in his last 10 games and now is up to eighth in points in the league. He's helping Ryan Hartman ($6,900) have a career season, as he leads the team with 18 goals. Mats Zuccarello ($7,400) has been on fire, as well, with multiple points in five straight games. This trio all plays together on the power play, making the correlation clean.
The Wild are on the road against the New York Rangers tonight. The Rangers just played last night against the Columbus Blue Jackets and lost 5-3. New York has been a good team but still can be leaky defensively. They allow the fourth-most shot attempts and third-most scoring chances per 60 minutes. The Rangers also could be without Adam Fox on defense, as he left the game in the third period last night and did not return.
Minnesota might not be as popular as they were on Monday because they are facing a better team. We can roster them at low popularity, and they definitely have the upside to break the slate.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins let us down last night. They only managed to score one goal against the Seattle Kraken at home, and it wasn't a situation where they just got unlucky. We can't go away from them after one poor game, as they still make for one of the best stacks of the night.
The Penguins' best players were still creating chances in last night's game. Jake Guentzel ($8,800) had seven shot attempts and five scoring chances. Sidney Crosby ($9,000) had six attempts and five scoring chances. Bryan Rust ($8,600) was a bit quieter, but he did contribute with an assist on Pittsburgh's only goal. Nothing crazy is happening after one loss, so these guys will remain together on the first line and top power play unit.
Pittsburgh will face the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. The Wings were most recently seen allowing eight goals to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. Overall, they allow the eighth-most goals per game at 3.40.
There remains a lot of faith in the Penguins, as the oddsmakers have their implied team total at 3.93 goals tonight. If you want another piece to this stack, you could add in Kris Letang ($7,400) or Evgeni Malkin ($7,300), who both picked up a point on a power play goal last night. The Penguins are once again one of the best stacks on tonight's slate, so don't let last night's frustrations have you off of them tonight.
