3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Tuesday 2/1/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
We've got a loaded 11-game slate with some huge favorites, so let's look at the best stacks to use tonight.
Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins are occupying the last wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, and they look like they'll be in a playoff spot. Their last game was a rough 6-1 loss, but they return home tonight and should bounce back.
The Bruins made a change to their lines. They went back to the "Perfection Line," loading up the first line with their best players.
Brad Marchand ($9,200) has been making headlines on and off the ice, and he leads the team in goals and points. David Pastrnak ($8,400) was able to produce on the second line, with seven goals in his last 10 games. He'll be just fine slotting back on the line that has seen him be one of the best goal scorers in the league for the past three seasons. Patrice Bergeron ($7,500) will center this line, and he's third on the team in points behind his two linemates.
Boston returns home to face the Seattle Kraken tonight. Seattle continues to struggle in their first season, as they've allowed the fourth-most goals per game in the league. They don't have a line that can match up with Boston's first line, which tends to dominate possession of the puck.
The Bruins have an implied team total of 3.66 goals tonight. Unlike some other teams with high totals, we should know that if the Bruins are scoring a lot, it's probably through this line. That makes them a top stack on tonight's slate.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights were expected to be at the top of the Pacific Division, which is where they currently sit. It hasn't been smooth sailing to get there as many people thought, as a number of injuries has had them in slumps at various points of the season. Now, they are nearly at full strength and have a great matchup.
Vegas welcomed back Max Pacioretty ($10,000) last week. He's missed time this season with two separate injuries but sits third in the league in goals per 60 minutes. Mark Stone ($6,600) will be playing with him as per usual. Stone has seen his salary fall because of a bad stretch of form, but with Pacioretty back, he should improve on his assist rate, which is still the 12th best in the league.
The new wrinkle to this line is that Nolan Patrick ($3,900) will get his chance at center with Chandler Stephenson out. Patrick is a former second overall pick and now gets to play on the first line and top power play with two star players.
The Golden Knights welcome the Buffalo Sabres to town. Buffalo has allowed the sixth-most goals per game this season. The Sabres will be starting Craig Anderson in net, who has been solid in seven games this season but is 40 years old and has been worse than league average since the 2016-17 season.
Vegas' implied team total is approaching four, the second highest on tonight's slate. Their first line is very affordable given the team total, and you are able to get full correlation on that line. That makes a great stack on a big slate like tonight.
Toronto Maple Leafs
We liked the Toronto Maple Leafs last night, and they paid off, so we can go right back to them in the same matchup. While teams like the Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers are offensive juggernauts with high team totals, they make for trickier stacks than Toronto. Those teams are so deep that they can spread the goals around, while Toronto's first line is clearly the best option on their team.
For the second game in a row, the Leafs were trailing but bounced back due to a hat trick from a member of their first line. On Monday, it was Auston Matthews ($10,300) who scored three and added an assist. Playing with Mitchell Marner ($6,800) again proved to be a dangerous duo, as the winger also had a goal and two assists. This was Marner's sixth straight game with a goal, making his $6,800 salary a great value. After his hat trick on Saturday, Michael Bunting ($5,000) came up empty last night, but he's still an affordable third member of this line.
The Leafs go up against the New Jersey Devils again tonight, with the venue shifting to New Jersey. The loss last night was the fifth in a row for the Devils and the 12th time this season they've allowed at least 12 goals. We don't know yet who will be in net for New Jersey, but it doesn't really change anything, as all of their goalies have allowed more goals than expected this season.
Like Vegas, Toronto's first line isn't too much of a salary squeeze considering the upside. Their implied team total slots in just behind Vegas' at 3.85 currently, and they are capable of breaking the slate again tonight.
Others to Consider: Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Winnipeg Jets
