3 NHL FanDuel Value Plays to Target on Tuesday 2/8/22
Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal of risk, too. The right low-salary plays can give you good production while affording you more chances to roster high-salary studs.
Tuesday night has seven games on the schedule. Let's get down into the values!
Derek Stepan, Center, Carolina Hurricanes
FanDuel Salary: $4,000
Surprisingly, Derek Stepan has again become a nice DFS option from the bottom-six for the Carolina Hurricanes.
The key is always to make sure Stepan is involved in the play early. He has four goals and four assists in his last 12 games.
The Hurricanes face the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. The Sens allow 3.32 goals per game (27th in the league). There is risk with Stepan, who typically plays just 10 to 12 minutes a night, but I like him at this low salary.
Cole Caufield, Wing, Montreal Canadiens
FanDuel Salary: $4,000
Cole Caufield has endured a nightmare season for the Montreal Canadiens, but he plays against a New Jersey Devils team may be worse than Montreal right now.
New Jersey is routinely giving up three and four goals a night with fourth- and fifth-string goaltenders. Also, New Jersey lost 4-1 in Ottawa last night. Montreal, in the meantime, is quite rested.
There are so many dicey options on Tuesday night across this slate. Caufield is one himself, but he had at least three shots on goal in six of his last nine games before COVID.
New Jersey is one of the worst teams in the league. Montreal is the worst. Expect fireworks.
Jeff Petry, Defenseman, Montreal Canadiens
FanDuel Salary: $4,100
Taking a long shot from the bargain bin, Jeff Petry is worth a look.
Have we lost our minds? Actually, no.
The defenseman has endured one of his worst DFS seasons after enjoying one of his best runs in 2021. He has just a goal and five assists for the campaign, but Petry has put up double-digit FanDuel points twice in the last four games. He has done that only one other time this season.
The problem with Petry is blocked shots. Those have been tough to come by this year. His shot volume is not bad (two per game lately).
Petry has a great matchup against a New Jersey team that bleeds unblocked shot attempts. Take the chance on him.
