3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Thursday 2/10/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
We've got seven games tonight, which is fewer than we normally have on a Thursday. Let's see which stacks we can use tonight.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins continued their impressive run on Tuesday, winning 4-2 after being down 2-0. They've only lost 1 game in regulation in their last 10 contests. As is usually the case, they are a great stack tonight.
The Penguins' top line remains together, and it has been one of the most productive lines in hockey when all members are healthy. Sidney Crosby ($8,800) had a goal and five shots on goal in that win on Tuesday. That brought him to 16 points in his last 10 games, including seven in his last four. Bryan Rust ($9,100) had a goal and an assist on Tuesday, and he leads Pittsburgh with 1.36 points per game. Jake Guentzel ($9,300) had two assists and now has eight points and 17 shots on goal in his last four games. This line is fully correlated on the power play, making them dangerous in all situations.
Pittsburgh will play the Ottawa Senators tonight. The last time these teams met on January 20th, Guentzel and Crosby each had a goal, and Rust had two assists. The Senators allow the most shot attempts per 60 minutes, so the Penguins should get plenty of chances.
Pittsburgh's implied team total is currently 3.79 goals (second-highest on the slate). Kris Letang ($6,900) is a great fourth piece to this stack; he is tied for second on the team with 41 points.
St. Louis Blues
The St. Louis Blues are playing their first game after the break at home tonight. They are currently the third-best team in points percentage in the West and are 7-3-1 in their last 10 games. They resume the season with a juicy matchup tonight.
There have been several moving parts to the Blues' lines this season, but luckily they are very deep at forward. The first line now has Ryan O'Reilly ($5,600) playing alongside Brayden Schenn ($5,600) and Pavel Buchnevich ($7,200). O'Reilly will play on the top power play with Schenn, who has been productive when healthy. Buchnevich has been great all season with 36 points (third on the team).
The second line features St. Louis' two top scorers in Jordan Kyrou ($7,900) and Vladimir Tarasenko ($8,600). Robert Thomas ($4,900) will play on this line and on the power play with Kyrou. He offers some salary relief. It's tricky to get the correlations right with St. Louis, but they all have great upside tonight.
The Blues will play the New Jersey Devils tonight. New Jersey looked good in their last game, but that was an outlier from their recent performances. They've gone 2-8 in their last 10 games. Goaltending has been a massive issue since they've allowed the fourth-most goals per game in the league.
St. Louis has the highest implied team total on the slate at 3.91 goals. Whichever way you want to stack one of the top two lines will have some merit in this matchup.
Columbus Blue Jackets
While the Washington Capitals stand out because of their matchup, with no Alex Ovechkin in the lineup, they are tricky to stack.
Instead, we are going to turn to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who beat the Capitals 5-4 on Tuesday. They aren't likely to make the playoffs, but CBJ averages more goals per game than the likes of the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators. Tonight, they are in a good spot and have a line that has been clicking of late.
The Blue Jackets made a big trade last season to acquire Patrik Laine ($7,000). They are finally seeing the guy they thought they were getting. Laine has now scored two goals in three consecutive games. Boone Jenner ($6,600) leads the team in goals and points, and he will center Laine on the top line and on the power play. Gustav Nyquist ($5,200) has been a great third member of this line with points in four straight games.
Columbus will play the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. The Sabres aren't the worst team in the league like many were predicting, but they aren't far off. They are second-to-last in the East and have allowed four or more goals seven times in 2022. They also will be starting Dustin Tokarski in net, who has allowed 3.84 goals above expected in just 15 appearances.
Laine is listed as a game-time decision, but he seems to be on track to play. He has a ton of upside in a matchup like this; we know he's one of the best pure goal scorers in the league. If he has a big game, he is likely to bring his linemates with him, making this stack a good option tonight.
Other Stacks to Consider: Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Buffalo Sabres
