3 NHL FanDuel Studs to Target on Monday 2/28/22

Jack Hughes leads the Devils in what profiles to be a back-and-forth affair with the Canucks. Who else can we turn to Monday?

Spending up in any daily fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup.

In NHL DFS, it’s different from spending up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are spending salary in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.

Monday night has just three games on the schedule. Here are some studs.

Jack Hughes, Center, New Jersey Devils

FanDuel Salary: $8,300

Jack Hughes probably wishes New Jersey had better goaltending, but he and the offense have been on fire of late.

The center has a six-game real-world point streak. He has four goals and seven assists during that time.

This is a nice matchup for New Jersey against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. Vancouver played at MSG against the New York Rangers on Sunday and could be a little fatigued.

The Canucks penalty kill is dead last in the NHL and Jaroslav Halak may start instead of Thatcher Demko. This is for a squad that's already allowed the 11th-most expected goals in the league.

This matchup could be a decent one for stacking, and Jesper Bratt and Dougie Hamilton are at least intriguing pairings with Hughes.

J.T. Miller, Wing, Vancouver Canucks

FanDuel Salary: $7,900

It is not a secret that J.T. Miller has been excellent at piling up goals and assists recently.

New Jersey will allow goals. They're seventh in the league in goals allowed (187).

The Canucks forward has 5 goals and 10 assists in his last eight games. That includes five games with at three scoring chances and shots on goal.

This game has the feel of another entertaining game in Newark.

A match with Elias Pettersson could be an intriguing one to bring back the other side of this contest.

Damon Severson, Defenseman, New Jersey Devils

FanDuel Salary: $6,200

Did I mention this environment was solid?

Damon Severson is finding a way to increase his relevance. Severson has a goal and eight assists in his last nine games. It also never hurts to be on the top paring with two Devils lines rolling currently.

The risk with the defenseman has always been his floor. He has just nine shots and five blocked shots on goal in this span. That's a combined floor of just two shots plus blocks per game.

This has been a better year for Severson on the man advantage as well. He does have 11 real-world points on the man advantage. That is encouraging, too; New Jersey's power play has been 22% since January 1st.

Severson is a top choice on Monday night, but Drew Doughty is at least an alternative against Boston.
