3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Wendesday 4/6/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
We've got five games on Wednesday, so let's see which teams make the most sense to stack.
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are barely still alive for a playoff spot. They'll need any win they can get if they want to stay in the race. Tonight, they have a good matchup where they should be able to win.
Winnipeg was without star winger Kyle Connor ($9,200) for the past three games, but he will be back in the lineup today. He's fifth in the NHL with 41 goals on the season. He'll be playing with Blake Wheeler ($7,100), who leads the team with 42 assists. Pierre-Luc Dubois ($6,000) has been rejuvenated in his second season in Winnipeg, chipping in nicely with 25 goals and 26 assists. Winnipeg hasn't been the best team for correlated stacks this season, but these three are all on the first power play and are all skilled enough to make stacking them enticing.
The Jets will host the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings were able to get a shocking win over the Boston Bruins last night. Even in doing so, Detroit was weak defensively once again, allowing 50 shots on goal and 22 high-danger chances. Now, they'll have to play on a back-to-back against a rested team that could do damage to them.
Winnipeg's implied team total is above four. Detroit has allowed the most goals in the league and has surrendered nine-plus goals in a game on three separate occasions. The sky is the limit for this stack.
Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames sit on top of the Pacific Division in what has to be considered a successful season up to this point. Their provincial rival, the Edmonton Oilers, are suddenly nipping at their heels after winning five-straight games, so the Flames can't relax just yet.
The Flames' top line continues to be one of the best lines -- if not the best line -- in hockey. This has been the most productive five-on-five line in the NHL, and it is fully correlated on the power play. They went through a small slump, but that pretty much ended on Monday. Johnny Gaudreau ($9,300) had two goals and an assist in that one, as he looks to get his name in the MVP discussion even more. Elias Lindholm ($7,900) also added a goal, his 35th of the season. Matthew Tkachuk ($8,000) has cooled off a bit since his run of 16 points in nine games in the middle of March, but he is still capable of producing monster performances.
Calgary will take on the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks have been bottoming out for a while now, winning just one of their last 13 games and allowing 3.5 goals per game in that stretch. Their trade deadline moves have left them really thin at most positions, which doesn't bode well for them against this Flames team.
The Flames' implied team total only trails Winnipeg's on tonight's slate, so they are a great option to stack.
Vegas Golden Knights
It's been a strange season for the Vegas Golden Knights. They came into the year as the heavy favorites to win the Pacific Division and then made a big trade that made them one of the Stanley Cup favorites -- but they find themselves fighting for a playoff spot. Things have turned around a bit of late, and that might continue tonight.
Vegas has finally found some lines that seem to be working for them. Jack Eichel ($7,300) is finding the net lately, with four goals in his last five games. He also has 21 shots on goal in that time. Evgeni Dadonov ($5,300) has 11 points in his last 10 games despite the team trying to trade him in the middle of that stretch. Chandler Stephenson ($5,000) is still second on the team in points this season, something that would have been difficult to imagine at the start of the year. This trio also joins forces on the first power-play unit.
The Golden Knights will play host to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. These teams just met on Sunday in Vancouver, with Vegas coming away with a 3-2 win in that game. A difference between that game and this one is that Vancouver could be without their best defenseman in Quinn Hughes. That could expose some of their weaker depth defensemen and make it a tough matchup for the Canucks.
The salaries on this Vegas stack make it easy to fit in most other stacks on tonight's slate. You can jam them in fairly comfortably alongside the Winnipeg line we like and still have enough room to play a decent goaltender. It's rare that you can play two lines with perfect correlation on two teams in good spots.
