3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Tuesday 11/8/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
With the NBA off tonight, we've got some NHL tournaments with bigger prize pools. Let's see how we can possibly stack our lineups to take down one of them.
Ottawa Senators
It hasn't been the turnaround season for the Ottawa Senators that many were hoping for. They were declared the offseason champions after making some big moves, but it hasn't translated to on-ice success. Tonight, they'll get a juicy matchup in which their stars can perform well.
Even if they aren't living up to the hype, the Senators have players we can stack. Brady Tkachuk ($9,900) has a salary that is a bit eye-popping, but he has been good this season and has six points in his last four games. He plays with linemates who have more reasonable salaries in Tim Stutzle ($5,900) and Claude Giroux ($6,600). Giroux and Tkachuk are tied for the team lead with six goals each.
The second line is also in play, as it has two dangerous goal scorers in Drake Batherson ($7,000) and Alex DeBrincat ($7,500). You can also add in Derick Brassard ($3,300) at a very low salary, and he will see power play time with DeBrincat on the second unit.
The Sens are at home facing the Vancouver Canucks tonight. The Canucks aren't the total disaster they were to start the season, but things aren't looking great. They are still allowing four goals per game, and their penalty kill success rate is an abysmal 60%.
Ottawa definitely has the upside needed in this matchup to win tournaments tonight.
New York Rangers
The New York Rangers have been very up and down to start the season. After some lackluster performances offensively, they've decided to make some changes up front. We will now see their two best players play on the same even-strength line, which is exciting for fantasy.
It's hard to blame Artemi Panarin ($8,600) or Mika Zibanejad ($9,800) for any of the Rangers' current issues. Now, we'll get to see them playing together across all situations. With them being first and second on the team in points, this combination has the potential to erupt.
Kaapo Kakko ($4,400) is the affordable third piece of this line who is good to add to this stack. You can also include Adam Fox ($6,500), too, because if the power play really goes off, he's likely getting there with them.
The Rangers take on the rival New York Islanders tonight. When these teams played two weeks ago, the Rangers created 4.62 expected goals despite getting shut out. The Isles are low-key bad defensively, ranking bottom-10 in shot attempts against, expected goals against, and high-danger chances against on a per-60-minute basis.
The Rangers may get overlooked on this slate, but they do carry the fourth-highest implied team total. Against this Islanders team that just played last night, they have the potential to dominate.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have won three games in a row and seem to be turning things around from their mediocre start. Things weren't as bad as they were made out to be, but the team that is followed the closest in the NHL tends to have more people overreacting to every game than others. Luckily for us, this start has brought down the salaries for many of its players.
Last season, seeing the likes of Tage Thompson and Elias Pettersson with a higher salary than Auston Matthews ($9,200) was pretty unfathomable. Matthews has been good of late, with four goals in his last four games, including two against the defensively-stout Boston Bruins.
His partner, Mitchell Marner ($6,800), has also seen his salary drop a ton from what we saw last season. He is currently on a six-game point streak, so he isn't slumping too badly. Alexander Kerfoot ($4,200) is the third forward on this line, and using him makes this stack even easier to fit into lineups.
It's not an easy matchup for the Leafs against the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas has allowed the fewest goals per game in the league so far. They have allowed the eighth-most shot attempts per 60 though, and these talented players could be the ones to break through against them.
This is a perfect opportunity to buy low on a stack that was one of the most popular on every slate last season.
