NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 11/23/22

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.

Goalie to Target

Jake Oettinger ($8,400): We have a loaded 15-game NHL slate tonight with plenty of great options across the board, and Oettinger is among the best options for goalies. The Dallas Stars are big -295 moneyline favorite at home versus the Chicago Blackhawks, putting Oettinger in a spot to come away with a clean win.

The Stars have been one of the better defensive teams in the league this season, allowing the ninth-fewest (2.23) Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. This is nothing new for them -- they have been known as a solid defensive team over the past few seasons, and they have continued that trend this year.

The matchup against Chicago is as easy as it gets since the Blackhawks are dead last in the league with 1.61 Goals Scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. Chicago is also last in the league with a 44.24 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

High-Salaried Skaters

Andrei Svechnikov ($8,500): The Carolina Hurricanes have a slate-high 3.84 implied goal total, and we should be looking at their skaters in all formats. They come in with a 68.77 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created), which is the second-best in the league, but are scoring only the 17th-most (2.57) Goals in the same situations. Their offense is underproducing this season despite having a very high amount of shot attempts per game.

Their Expected Goals Scored (xGF) is up at 2.96 per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which would put them as the fifth-best team in the league. They are due for an offensive explosion, and they are a team you should be continuously targeting for your lineups.

Svechnikov has been consistent over his last 10 games, notching 10 NHL points and 31 shots on goal. He is one of their primary shooters and goal-scorers with time on the second-forward line and the first power-play unit. The matchup against the Arizona Coyotes is a great one since Arizona is allowing 3.39 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-most in the league.

Jack Eichel ($9,400): Eichel is in the midst of a resurgent season and makes for a viable option in all formats. The Vegas Golden Knights have a 3.81 implied goal total, and if they are going to reach that mark, Eichel will almost certainly be involved. He has 14 NHL points, 38 shots on goal, and 8 blocked shots over his last 10 games.

He will be taking on the Vancouver Canucks in a game with 6.5-goal total, presenting plenty of scoring potential. The Canucks are in the bottom 10 of the league for the most goals allowed while also being in the top 10 of the league for the most goals scored. This puts them in very fantasy-friendly game environments, and with Eichel on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, he will have plenty of chances to rack up points.

Nathan MacKinnon ($10,400): MacKinnon has 26 NHL points in 17 games this season, so when he doesn't find the scoresheet, it's actually a bit of a surprise. MacKinnon has been one of the most consistent fantasy players for several seasons, and through 17 games this year, he is showing there is no slowing down.

Not only have the NHL points been great, but the shot volume on a nightly basis has been elite. Over his last 10 games, MacKinnon has 53 shots on goal. This is exactly the type of consistent production you want in your cash-game lineups, while his multi-point potential is perfect for tournaments. It's the best of both worlds for MacKinnon.

Value Skaters

Anthony Mantha ($4,700): The matchup for the Washington Capitals is an easy one since they are taking on the Philadelphia Flyers, who come in with a 64.8 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed), which is the second-most in the league. The Caps have a 3.57 implied goal total, and even though their offense has been mediocre to start the season, this is a very favorable matchup.

Mantha is affordable and has recorded 6 NHL points and 18 shots on goal over his last 10 games. He's on the third forward line for the Caps and doesn't see power-play time but has point-per-dollar value in this matchup.

Brayden Schenn ($5,600): The St. Louis Blues are continuing to roll on offense and should be a source of fantasy value versus the Buffalo Sabres. After a good start to the season, the Sabres have regressed a good bit on defense and now find themselves in the bottom 10 of the league for the most Goals allowed per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

Schenn is on the third forward line and the second power-play for the Blues, registering 7 NHL points and 20 shots on goal over his last 10 games.
