Which quarterback from this draft class would you most want on your team?
The stats say Bridgewater an Manziel are superior, but we know that's pretty flimsy in projecting NFL stardom. So, who y'all got??

Is it statistically relevant that as a football QB prospect, Johnny Manziel's nickname is Johnny Football? It's even trademarked, isn't it?

It's amazing how much debate there has been about Manziel. It seems like his football IQ has been more questioned than anything else, but his Wonderlic would seem to suggest that he's capable of learning and adjusting the the NFL game. He's also confident/cocky enough that he seems capable of taking his lumps until he gets there. Obviously, what he was doing in college was working, given his high statistical performance. The final relevant statistic here is $$$- the team that drafts Manziel will sell tickets on Manziel alone, without the baggage of Tebow's inability to actually be a NFL QB.

I imagine you guys have many spreadsheets with every possible measurable on these guys. Are there any combination of measurables that are a higher predictor of NFL success? (height+Wonderlic, passing yardage+Instagram likes, etc.)

Jersey sales for Manziel will inevitably be disgusting for him, as well. That adds to the $$$ aspect that you mentioned.

As far as Wonderlic scores, are those "officially" made public? They might be, but I always just thought people had loose lips and "accidentally" leaked it. I've never personally done a study about those things, but I know that hand size actually does have some statistical relevancy into success. That's a big knock on Bridgewater.

An interesting hypothetical for NFL GM's is- if you know Manziel will end up in the middle category of QB's, where would you draft him given the other benefits of having a high profile QB? My gut reaction (which is of course the antithesis of this website) is that he'll end up at least middle tier.

JFF is the "flavor" of this draft and have been "pushed" very hard by the national media, which is fine. I, personally, agree w/ you about TB. This is the first time that Ive witnessed someone has "fallen" so fast because of a bad pro-day. These pundits are so 'full" of themselves. I believe the tapes because I've watched all of TB's televised games in his career and these tapes don't lie. Statistically, he is comparable to CP but I do believe he is much "tougher" and a winner than CP.

Actually, Andrew, Chad Pennington is a very respectable comparison. He was the 10th ranked QB out of all of those 47 taken in the first round with an average NEP of 50.98. He got flack because of the injuries, but Pennington was excellent when healthy. And, Steve, I agree. There are a ton of benefits, and I think that those benefits from Manziel are much greater than there would have been for, say, Vince Young for example. It's an interesting component of the decision-making process that may be keeping JFF elevated despite some of the things people have said about his decision making.

    Hi Jim,

Hi Jim, I didn't say TB was not "comparable" to CP, statistically. I've said he is "tougher" as a football player. CP was above average as a NFL qb, very good decision-making qb but couldn't get the ball downfield, this is where I see the similarity (not a very strong arm for both but making great decision) It is not a knock on these guys if they play in the right system ala TB or PM. Even though PM has a "high" ANY/A but that is contributed mostly from his receivers' YAC. I believe most of his yardage (almost 50%) come from YAC. That would be interesting to "adjust" the ANY/A with correlation to yard on-the-air attempt or even attempts that travel over 15 yards (in which most football people agree "the ball is throwing downfield and not dink-n-dunk) . I'd think that would give a more "accurate" picture if the qb is truly "throwing' the ball downfield. FYI, I really like you guys analysis along w/ Cold Hard Facts Football people.

Sorry for the delayed response here, but ANY/A adjusted for yards after catch would be SO DOPE. Who do we need to talk to to make this happen?

Manziel. You'll know if he's a bust before any of the other guys and be able to move on quicker if his game really doesn't translate.

I'm a Redskins fan, so I would have to go with the player who would complement RGIII, which is Manziel.
