Slate Overview

Positional Breakdown

Forwards/Midfielders

RB Leipzig are the main attraction on this slate. They're home -- though no fans will be there -- against Freiburg, and Leipzig are massive -330 favorites, per FanDuel Sportsbook, tops on the slate. This match also has the best odds of going over 2.5 goals (-174), so all the boxes are checked. The issue is Leipzig, particularly Timo Werner ($22), will likely be popular.

Werner is worthy of being the slate's most expensive player. At -210, he has the best anytime goal odds on the slate, and with Leipzig a big favorite, he should have a few chances to score. He's also taken three of their five pens, with that role being a huge plus in DFS. With 21 goals and seven assists in 24 Bundesliga starts this season, Werner has upside few on this slate can match -- just be prepared to swallow some chalk if you pay up for him.

If you want exposure to Leipzig but want to dodge ownership, say hello to Patrik Schick ($17), Marcel Sabitzer ($18) and Christopher Nkunku ($16). Sabitzer has tallied eight goals and five assists in 24 league starts, putting two shots on target in each of his past two matches across all competitions. Schick has seven goals and two assists in 10 starts (15 appearances), while Nkunku has four goals and 12 assists in 15 starts in his breakout campaign. Depending on how Leipzig set up, Nkunku could be next to Schick as an attacking-midfield pair right behind Werner, a nice spot to be for fantasy.

Dortmund will likely be the other popular team -- though, per a study I did recently, I would tread lightly when trying to stack either Leipzig or BVB. Dortmund are -200 to win at home versus rival Schalke, with the match -166 to go over 2.5 goals. Both of those marks are the second-best clips on the slate.

Erling Haaland ($21) and Jadon Sancho ($20) offer a big-time ceiling in this attack-minded side. Haaland has been incredible all year, but since moving to Dortmund, he has a whopping nine goals in five starts, averaging a laughable 1.76 goals plus assists per 90 minutes. Sancho is producing better than a goal or assist per start, totaling 14 goals and 15 assists in 21 starts. It's hard to pay up for one of these two alongside Werner, but you can make it work if you're willing to sift through the bargain bin elsewhere.

Personally, I love Thorgan Hazard ($17) as a cheaper -- and likely lesser owned -- way to get a piece of BVB. Hazard should start in an attacking role with Marco Reus out injured. That gives him a chance to play off Sancho and Haaland. He's recorded five goals and 10 assists in 19 league starts this campaign, averaging 0.81 goals plus assists per 90 minutes.

Outside of this slate's big two teams, Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg -- both +115 to win -- are sneaky-good teams to try to get exposure to.

Wolfsburg's match with Augsburg is only -108 to go over 2.5 goals, so the masses may stay away. Despite being only +115 to win, they're on the road -- again, no fans -- against an Augsburg side they hold a 20-goal edge on in goal differential. Admir Mehmedi ($16) or Daniel Ginczek ($19) are high-priced pivots off of all of the aforementioned BVB and Leipzig players, and WhoScored projects them to start in forward spots with Wout Weghorst, Wolfsburg's leading scorer, suspended.

As for Hoffenheim, they're at home versus Hertha Berlin. WhoScored has Ihlas Bebou ($17) and Christoph Baumgartner ($14) slated to start up top as part of a front three (more on the third guy in a minute) with Andrej Kramaric out injured. Baumgartner has four goals and one assist this season and would be a sweet point-per-dollar play if he does start in a forward spot.

Defenders

The third member of Hoffenheim's projected front three, per WhoScored, is Robert Skov ($15), who is listed as a defender on FanDuel. Anyone listed as a defender who starts further forward is a loophole in DFS, as they can rack up attacking points as well as be eligible to get a clean-sheet bonus. Skov has three goals and four assists in league play, and he'd be crazy enticing at this price if he starts up front.

Leipzig's Angeliño ($14) should be bombing forward from his left wing-back spot. He's another loophole-type player as he's really a winger/midfielder, especially in matches in which Leipzig dominate the ball -- something that should be the case against Freiburg. Since coming over on loan from Manchester City in the winter window, Angeliño has a goal and two assists while putting three shots on target across eight matches in all competitions.

Goalies

One of the few stacks my study found to be pretty viable was pairing a goalie and an attacker from the same team. It makes sense as we need the attacker to score a goal and create chances for our lineup to succeed, and if he does that, his goalie will have a good chance to get a win.

In that vein, Roman Burki ($14) and Peter Gulacsi ($14) -- the keepers for Dortmund and Leipzig, respectively -- are super appealing if you can afford them as they have great win odds. I wouldn't make paying up for them a priority, however.

Düsseldorf's Florian Kastenmeier ($11) and Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann ($12) are cheap expected starters for favorites. Augsburg's Tomas Koubek ($9) is having a rough year but may start in a game that's expected to be low-scoring (slate-low -108 to go over 2.5 goals). If Koubek is benched, it'll probably be Andreas Luthe ($5) in goal, and he'd just need to avoid a total dud to be worth his dirt-cheap salary.
