FanDuel Soccer: Champions League DFS Helper for 12/8/20
The Champions League, the best soccer competition on the planet, rolls on, and FanDuel is offering plenty of contests for Tuesday's and Wednesday's group stage matches. This article will focus on the main Tuesday slate, which starts at 3 p.m. EST.
Group Stage - 6th Game |
---|
Tuesday, December 7th |
Krasnodar at Chelsea |
Juventus at Barcelona |
Ferencvaros at Dynamo Kyiv |
Basaksehir at PSG |
Manchester United at RB Leipzig |
Sevilla at Rennes |
Per EPL odds, PSG (-950) is the slate's biggest favorite, with Chelsea (-350) in second. Dynamo (-125), Barcelona (+110), and RB Leipzig (+140) slot in behind Chelsea, with Rennes (+220) rounding out the slate at home against Sevilla. From an odds perspective, PSG is the clear target. The stars have aligned for them with an ideal combination of matchup and motivation. Sitting in second place in Group H, they are tied on points with Manchester United and three goals behind on goal difference. They have every reason to run up the score as much as possible to try to secure the top spot in the group. Fade them in cash at your own risk.
In the final matchday of the group stages, there are several sides that could rotate their squads to give their youth a chance to gain some experience. Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, Rennes, Krasnodar, and Sevilla can do very little to change their finishing spots on Tuesday, while PSG, Manchester United, and RB Leipzig still have everything to play for. Dynamo and Ferencvaros still have a chance at a Europa League spot. Keep an eye on the four sides with little to gain on Tuesday, as value could open up there, especially for Chelsea, who has the easiest matchup of the group.
Here are some players to target at various salary ranges.
Forwards/Midfielders
Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, PSG ($23 and $22) -- Every PSG starter is in play on Tuesday in what should be a comfortable multi-goal victory. Neymar was rested in Saturday's league match and should be fully fit for Tuesday. The Brazilian has FanDuel point totals of 59.6, 41.6, and 27.3 over his last three fixtures, with 4 goals, 7 shots on goal, 9 chances created, and 10 total shots during that span. He will be extremely popular, but he is likely the safest play on the slate with his combination of set-piece responsibilities, matchup, and goal-scoring upside. Lineup decisions start with Neymar on Tuesday.
Mbappe has just one goal in his last five matches and none in his last four starts. It's a small drought that shouldn't outweigh his impressive form from earlier in the year when he scored seven goals over eight appearances from September to late October. After scoring a goal in a 12-minute substitute appearance on Saturday, this should be a get-right spot for Mbappe, whose ceiling is every bit as high as Neymar's. The question for PSG's attackers on Tuesday isn't if but how many.
Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, Manchester City ($14 and $15) -- Neither side have anything to play for in this contest, with Chelsea locked into first place in their group and Krasnodar heading to the Europa League. Chelsea is the second-largest favorite on the slate and shouldn't miss a beat if they rotate their squad, given the quality of their depth. Hakim Ziyech's hamstring injury last weekend opens up an opportunity for Mount, specifically on set-pieces. Mount is coming off the second-best FanDuel game of his season, a 40.8-point performance against Leeds on Saturday, and has been his most productive against lesser opposition this season, with big games against West Brom, Leeds, Burnley, and Rennes. Krasnodar certainly fit the bill.
Pulisic, when healthy, has multi-goal upside against any opponent. This season has been difficult for the American, battling numerous injuries that have resulted in inconsistent playing time, but he should be good to go on Tuesday. Coming off a goal against Leeds on Saturday, this is an excellent spot for Pulisic to recapture his form from the end of last season. His salary is simply too low for his projected outlook as a key attacker on the second-largest favorite on the slate. He may not play the full 90, but 60 to 70 minutes is more than enough time for him to produce.
Viktor Tsygankov, Dynamo Kyiv ($16) -- Kyiv is the third-largest favorites on Tuesday's slate in a fixture that is a lower-stakes version of the matches in group H. Kyiv and Ferencvaros are battling for a spot in the Europa League, with the winner guaranteed to go through and a draw dependent on how many goals are scored by each. Both sides are likely to score in this one, but Kyiv is a home favorite, which bodes well for Tsygankov, who could have a large role on set pieces if Carlos De Pena ($14) doesn't start. Over his last three group stage matches, he has a combined two goals, seven shots, and five shots on goal.
Defenders
Alex Telles, Atalanta ($13) -- Telles' United career is off to a flying start. He's made a noticeable impact on both ends of the pitch and has scored at least 9.9 FanDuel points in all six of his starts. He is averaging 14.1 FanDuel points per appearance despite having just one assist from 49 crosses. In the showcase fixture of Tuesday's slate, Telles should be busy on both ends of the pitch and offers a slight discount over the higher salaried defenders on the slate. Edison Cavani's absence through injury slightly dims Telles' assist upside, as United lack another true target forward for crosses, but it could open up a sneaky stack opportunity with Paul Poga ($12). Pogba could get his second UCL start of the season with Fred suspended and is coming off a solid performance against West Ham, should play down the left side with Telles, and would be United's second-most likely target for crosses from corners, behind Harry Maguire
($10).
Angelino, RB Leipzig ($15) -- As always, if Angelino is on the slate, he's worth considering. He struggled in the reverse fixture, producing just 9.9 FanDuel points, but has produced in difficult matchups this season and is one of the most consistent attacking defenders in the world. He has more FanDuel performances over 20.0 points (9) than he does below 10.0 (4) and should be asked to press United on Tuesday, as Leipzig is almost guaranteed to need a win to advance. United has been hot and cold this season, usually both within the same game, but one constant has been their inability to keep clean sheets. They have two clean sheets on the road this season and just one total over their last eight fixtures. Leipzig lost the reverse fixture by five goals, but his one should be a much tighter contest.
Goalie
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona ($11) -- It seems odd to only highlight a keeper from a fixture the features both Messi ($23) and Ronaldo ($21), but neither side has been especially impressive this season, and Barcelona only need to limit their opposition to secure the top spot in the group. ter Stegan comes into this one following a miserable performance in La Liga on Saturday, but he kept back-to-back clean sheets in the matches before that and has decently high save-upside as a slight home favorite in this one. He is a decent option for large-field tournaments, while PSG's Keylor Navas ($14) is the safest option for cash games. Keep an eye on Chelsea's keeper situation, as they could choose to rest Edouard Mendy ($15), which would make Kepa Arrizabalaga ($5) an excellent value option and worth strong consideration in all formats.
