Fantasy Baseball: A Value Hitter at Every Position

On July 25th, Jake Lamb was batting .284 with a .959 OPS. Through 94 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks, he had compiled 21 home runs and 65 RBI's, looking like a breakout player with home games in a great hitter’s park.

Then Lamb was rested for two games because of a bruised left hand. From then on, he wasn't the same guy. Over Lamb's final 57 games, he hit for a listless .192 average and added just 8 more homers. Whether it's the hand or a prolonged slump that deserves the blame, the late-season slide has impacted his fantasy value.

If not for last year’s second-half collapse, Lamb likely would have exceeded 30 home runs and 100 RBI's. The spoiled breakout is allowing Lamb to be taken around pick 150 in NFBC drafts as the 16th third baseman. Had Lamb, who is entering his age-26 campaign, stayed healthy and indeed exceeded the aforementioned plateaus, it’s hard to imagine this kind of upside being available late in the draft.
