8 Overvalued Players for Fantasy Baseball in 2017
Carlos Gonzalez, OF, Colorado Rockies
Position Rank: 17th
Current ADP: 66.52
Not too long after Hamilton goes off the board, Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez also finds a home. It should take him longer than that, though. Him being healthy over the last two seasons has allowed him to be a viable fantasy asset (65 homers and 197 RBI's since the start of 2015), but there are equally good options going much later.
Here are the Steamer Projections for Khris Davis, Adam Jones and Jose Bautista compared to CarGo.
Steamer Projection | ADP | Avg. | HR | RBI | Runs | SB |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Carlos Gonzalez | 66.52 | .286 | 29 | 94 | 80 | 3 |
Khris Davis | 102.75 | .247 | 31 | 91 | 76 | 3 |
Adam Jones | 117.52 | .270 | 28 | 85 | 82 | 3 |
Jose Bautista | 118.15 | .249 | 27 | 78 | 75 | 3 |
Gonzalez wins batting average, but the rest of these projections look awfully similar.
Having a player who plays at Coors Field half the year is always tantalizing, and while the Rockies are exploring an extension with him, his name has been included in trade rumors for quite a while. So, it's not necessarily guaranteed that he'll have this advantage for the entire 2017 season.
There's similar production available 40 or 50 picks after CarGo is getting selected, leaving the opportunity to further strengthen your pitching staff or infield at an opportune time.
