8 Overvalued Players for Fantasy Baseball in 2017
Eduardo Nunez, SS, San Francisco Giants
Position Rank: 7th
Current ADP: 114.79
Make no bones about it -- the shortstop position is absolutely loaded with elite talent. That's why it's puzzling to see Eduardo Nunez squeak his way into the top 10.
He'll be manning third base for the San Francisco Giants this year, but his shortstop eligibility is great since he's coming off an All-Star campaign in which he finally got regular playing time. The question will be whether or not it's sustainable given how his production dropped off in the second half.
Eduardo Nunez | PA | Avg. | HR | RBI | Runs | SB |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
First Half | 336 | .321 | 12 | 40 | 46 | 22 |
Second Half | 259 | .244 | 4 | 27 | 27 | 18 |
The stolen bases didn't go anywhere, but that second-half swoon basically turned him into a one-category asset.
Shortstop is a deep position, and while the elite players are all going before him, Addison Russell is waiting another 20 picks to go off the board after Nunez, and that just doesn't add up.
Russell is just 23 years old and already has 20-homer, 90-RBI power despite not necessarily putting it all together at the plate just yet. Nunez has him beat in stolen bases, but the pros outweigh the cons here.
