A.J. Cole, SP, Washington Nationals

A.J. Cole may seem like a good option to target on the cheap tonight. After all, he posted a solid 3.81 ERA last year and pitches for a team that should give him some run support. However, looking at Cole's peripheral numbers, he falls short of being a mediocre pitcher.

In 2017, Cole posted just a 19.2% strikeout rate and combined that with a 36.8% hard-hit rate. That, along with a very poor 5.12 SIERA, tells us that Cole was more lucky than good last season.

Moreover, the Atlanta Braves' lineup is better than you might think, especially against right-handed pitching (as we touched on yesterday). As an average pitcher, at best, and taking on an unfavorable matchup, Cole is a strong fade on Tuesday's slate.
