Wei-Yin Chen has been especially terrible against right-handed bats this season, allowing an absurd .398 wOBA and 6.46 xFIP to right-handed bats. Chris Owings hasn't been producing particularly well for Arizona, but his contact numbers -- 40.7% hard-hit rate, 13.0% soft-hit rate and 50.9% fly-ball rate -- against southpaws do give him some appeal in tonight's spot.
His lack of production means that he's not a safe option by any stretch, but getting exposure to the Arizona offense against Chen is key. And the contact Owings has made this year gives him some decent upside for a guy that is priced only $200 above the minimum.
