5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 4/10/19
Eric Thames, 1B, Milwaukee Brewers
Price: $2,900
We saw Eric Thames' production cool off significantly last year after he returned to the MLB with a bang in 2017, but he still paired a passable .330 wOBA with a strong .259 ISO. His contact also remained as good as ever (if not better), turning in a 46.0% hard-hit rate and 46.7% fly-ball rate. That gives him 36.8% hard-hits, 40.4% fly-balls and a .228 ISO for his career -- even including his weak 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Since returning, he's got some especially beefy numbers against righties, with a .368 wOBA and .278 ISO on a 44.4% hard-hit rate.
Those numbers give him some serious upside tonight against Felix Pena and the Los Angeles Angels. Pena has looked solid to start the year, though while his swinging-strike rate is up and his SIERA is down, he's given up a 45.5% hard-hit rate and 54.5% fly-ball rate, which comes after his first year as a starter saw him allow 40.1% hard contact and a 33.3% fly-ball rate in 2018. That suggests there's still plenty of room for upside from a power hitter against Pena.
