Masahiro Tanaka has been extremely consistent in limiting damage this season, walking just 1.64 batters per nine innings. Opposing hitters haven’t been able to get lift on the ball, either, as Tanaka is holding them to a 54.1 percent groundball rate.

As a result, he’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of his 11 starts this season.

The only frustration is his lack of strikeouts. Despite a swinging strike rate of 11.5 percent that is basically the same as a year ago, Tanaka’s strikeouts per nine innings rate has dropped from 8.12 to 7.07.

Even if his strikeouts don’t pick up tonight, it’s hard to imagine Tanaka getting knocked around by the Angels. Even with Mike Trout in the lineup, the Angels are second-to-last in the MLB versus right-handed pitching with a .133 ISO.

As a -160 favorite, Tanaka is a solid cash game option if you don’t pay up for Lester.
