4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 9/2/16
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As always, we will not include today's game at Coors Field here. Coors is great for DFS, but you likely don't need me to tell you that. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Texas Rangers
Once we take Coors Field out of the equation, there's only one team on today's slate with an implied team total of 5.00 or higher. That's the Texas Rangers, and the falloff after their total and that of the Cleveland Indians is frightening. Even if Doug Fister does limit hard contact, we don't have much choice but to hike down to Arlington.
In the second half of the season, Fister has reduced his walk rate, and he has actually hiked up his strikeout rate. It's 16.4% since the All-Star break, a decent jump from his mark of 15.0% prior to that. The issue with Fister is that he's still only getting swings and misses 6.5% of the time, one of the lowest marks in the league, meaning that strikeout rate will likely regress a bit going forward. This means the Rangers will get base runners, and that's what we need from a stack.
Fister's ability to induce soft contact is eons lower against lefties, and the Rangers have one who is trending up in a hurry.
Nomar Mazara finished the first half of the season with a hard-hit rate of 24.4%; in the second half, that's all the way up to 39.4%. Swoon city, brudduhs and sistahs. His pricing hasn't quite accounted for that or his leap in the batting order yet, so plug Mazara in and stack from there.
