Mets name Zack Wheeler the fourth starter, will limit his innings in 2017
New York Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler will start the club's fourth regular season game, but assistant general manager John Ricco said the right-hander will be on a yet-to-be-determined minutes limit this season.
"There’s going to be some number but we don’t exactly know what that is," Ricco said. Wheeler hasn't pitched since 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but the former top prospect was excellent in those 32 starts, recording a 3.54 ERA and 23.5 strikeout percentage across 185 1/3 innings. The innings limit caps his fantasy value, but Wheeler could be a decent streaming option early on in 2017.
numberFire's models project Wheeler to go 3-5 over 71 1/3 innings this upcoming season, and we expect him to record a 4.03 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 21.9 strikeout percentage.
