Fantasy Football: 5 Running Backs With Major Touchdown Upside
Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers
Over the past three seasons, 52 running backs have recorded at least 20 goal line carries. Among that group, Eddie Lacy ranks fourth with a 37.03% goal line touchdown rate. Two of the backs ahead of him are not viable fantasy options (Matt Asiata and Joique Bell), and that means Lacy is one of the most efficient goal line backs you can draft this season.
Lacy has combined that efficiency with a heavy workload, ranking sixth among running backs with 54 goal line carries in that span, creating a perfect storm for major touchdown production.
Lacy's usage expands out into the red zone too, and among active running backs, he ranks 5th in red zone carries over the last three years with 109, and 10th in red zone targets with 19.
The Green Bay Packers are looking like they will once again be one of the best offenses in the league, being led by Aaron Rodgers, who has ranked top-five in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back in four of the past five seasons, and getting back Jordy Nelson, who ranked sixth among all wideouts with 50-plus targets in Reception NEP per target in 2014.
A powerhouse offense is going to spend a lot of time in scoring position, meaning we can expect Lacy once again to see plenty of touches near the end zone, and with his impressive efficiency, he has a good chance to hit double-digit touchdowns for the third time in his four-year career, and it wouldn't be shocking to see him among the league-leaders this season.
