Fantasy Football: Redrafting the First Round After 4 Weeks
6. Devonta Freeman, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Fantasy football’s third-ranked running back in standard scoring is Devonta Freeman of the Atlanta Falcons. While sharing a backfield with the talented Tevin Coleman perhaps caps his overall ceiling, his talent and role as the centerpiece of that Falcons offense cannot be denied.
Freeman is pacing the league with his five rushing touchdowns and is second only to Kareem Hunt in Rushing NEP per carry (0.11) for backs with more than 50 carries. He’s one of just two running backs in the NFL to score a touchdown in every single game, making him one of the most consistent plays at the position.
If there’s a concern, it’s his lack of involvement in the passing game -- with only nine receptions this season, he is on pace to catch just 36 balls, his lowest output since a disappointing rookie season. He is currently being out-targeted by backfield mate Coleman 19 to 9, leaving him with perhaps the lowest weekly ceiling of the first-round picks.
Still, his usage at the goal line in a Falcons offense ranked fourth in Adjusted NEP per play makes him an extremely valuable asset to any fantasy roster, and he has clearly cemented his place in the top tier of NFL running backs.
