8 Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 1
Allen Hurns, WR, Dallas Cowboys
There aren't many teams whose likely number-one wide receiver is available on most waiver wires, but that's the case for the Dallas Cowboys right now.
Part of that is because of the uncertainty in Dallas. They're returning Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams (who have never been big volume guys), they drafted Michael Gallup (but that was in the third round), and they signed Allen Hurns.
Per BloggingTheBoys, Hurns and Gallup played every snap in three-wide sets with Dak Prescott on the field in the preseason. Overall, Hurns was on the field for 28 of the 39 first-team snaps, and it should be him and Gallup with the best shot at volume.
One thing that is certain is that there is a ton of unaccounted for volume that is up for grabs in Dallas. Headlined by Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, players no longer with the team accounted for 263 of their 485 targets (54.2%).
So even if Hurns doesn't step in as a target hog, and the top wideout role doesn't get clearly defined, he should still see strong volume.
The Cowboys don't draw a great matchup here, taking on the Carolina Panthers, but Hurns' volume should be enough to allow him to produce at a reasonable clip anyway. And with so much uncertainty heading into Week 1, the long-term upside that you may be grabbing the Cowboys' top wideout for the season here makes him that much more appealing.
