Matt LaCosse, TE, Denver Broncos

DraftKings Price: $2,500

Projected Points: 6.85

Projected Value (points per $1,000): 2.74

If you had never heard of Matt LaCosse prior to this week and had to google him I can’t fault you. The guy's come out of nowhere to become a relevant name in fantasy football.

Like many teams on Monday, the Denver Broncos lost a role player to their offense in Jeff Heuerman. Heuerman had stretches throughout the year where he was viable in fantasy due to good matchups and target volume.

Since the Demaryius Thomas trade, Heuerman was second on the Broncos in target market share (19%) and narrowly third in receiving yards (147). His 6.3 targets per game put him in consideration for DFS given his cheap price. Now that he's down with injury, LaCosse is the easy candidate to fill his role in the offense.

Unless your name is Eric Ebron, the second tight end in any offense is hardly roster-able. This is the same case for LaCosse, who has little to show for this season. He does have three games of four targets or more on his seasonal resume though, which is promising given that he normally plays 30% of the teams snaps.

We touched on how bad the Cincinnati Bengals passing defense is in Case Keenum's section, and they might be just as bad to tight ends. They are bottom three in targets (93), catches (71), and touchdowns (8) allowed to tight ends this year. At the minimum ($2,500), LaCosse pops as a value in our projection model this week because of his new role. He is a true punt play at a weak position, while also allowing you to pay up elsewhere.
