Even before rupturing his Achilles, Demaryius Thomas was having another disappointing campaign. It was the fourth season in a row in which his total receiving yards fell as well as his number of receptions per game.

Thomas saw double-digit targets in each of the first two games of 2018 but was able to convert his 21 targets into only 11 catches for 81 yards. He never saw more than eight looks again in a single game, either for the Denver Broncos or Houston Texans.

Thomas has the 12th-richest wide receiver contract in the NFL, but his output in recent years shows he is grossly overpaid. By our numbers, he was 27th in Target NEP per target and 33rd in Reception NEP per target (out of 52 wide receivers who saw at least 75 targets).

Thomas is still under contract through 2020, but a $14 million contract (with no guarantees) is far too rich for an inefficient wide receiver, who is now the wrong side of 30 and coming of a serious injury.
