Tyler Eifert

Ever since Tyler Eifert's Week 1 explosion he's been relatively quiet, compiling only 7 receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown in his last three games. So why would I be recommending Eifert going against the Seahawks' vaunted defense?

First of all, Eifert isn't a slam dunk going against the 'Hawks, so I'd recommend you utilize him only as a tournament play. But the Seahawks, for all of their defensive acumen, currently ranked 13th in passing defense per our metrics (and climbing with the return of Kam Chancellor), are actually not all that great against opposing tight ends.

Remember this is basically the same squad that a then-34-year old tight end Antonio Gates torched for three touchdowns in a single game last season. And per Football Outsiders, they rank 30th at defending opposing tight ends when adjusted for opponent. With Andy Dalton likely to be skittish about throwing too much into the crosshairs of the Legion of Boom secondary, it wouldn't be altogether surprising to see Eifert get a higher portion of targets via shorter and more intermediate routes than the four targets he's averaged per game since Week 2.

Again, don't rely on Eifert in your cash games. But if you feel like throwing a dart at a high-risk-high-reward prospect with likely very low ownership, you could do worse than looking Eifert's way.
