Steelers bench Mitchell Trubisky, name Mason Rudolph Week 16 starter
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that Mason Rudolph, not Mitchell Trubisky, will be the team's starting quarterback for their Week 16 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
With Kenny Pickett (knee) on the shelf for now, the 7-7 Steelers will shift from Trubisky to Rudolph in an attempt to salvage a potential playoff run. Trubisky's inability to move the ball as the starter on offense led to back-to-back losses to the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, forcing Pittsburgh's hand. Rudolph was not much better when he stepped up behind an injured Ben Roethlisberger in 2019, but will hopefully have improved after spending the past several years on Pittsburgh's bench.
Trubisky had completed 67 of his 107 attempts on the year for 632 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He has added a pair of touchdowns as a rusher as well, but was generally unable to sustain a healthy offense in any of his recent starts.
