49ers nab defensive lineman Solomon Thomas with third pick
The San Fransisco 49ers selected Stanford Cardinal defensive end Solomon Thomas with the third pick in the 2017 draft.
The 49ers traded back one spot and still got their man. Thomas is a big (6'3", 275 lbs) but is an exceptional athlete. He projects as a run stuffing lineman who also has the quickness and speed to rush the passer. He was named the Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the year in 2016. Thomas will help a 49ers defense that allowed the most rushing yards to opposing teams in 2016.
Thomas recorded 8.5 sacks and 14.0 tackles for a loss last season.
