Ty Montgomery to become Packers No. 3 WR?

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects 2015 third-round selection Ty Montgomery to take over as the Packers' third receiver after Jordy Nelson's ACL tear.

What It Means:

That's high praise for the rookie, who was originally expected to deal primarily with special teams in his first year in the league. Jeff Janis was the first man off the bench to replace Nelson in Sunday's preseason game, but beat reporter Tom Silverstein believes the rookie is ahead of him on the depth chart. Janis is a near body double for Nelson, but the Journal-Sentinel believes he is too "inconsistent" to seize the job.

Jeff Janis has only had two regular season targets so far in his short NFL career (both of which he caught, for 1.40 Reception NEP), so there is no real favorite for this job on paper. This should be a true competition going forward, but we expect there are only about 60-70 targets in the passing offense available anyway, as Randall Cobb and Davante Adams' roles will both likely expand to fill this void. Both Montgomery and Janis are worth a late flier in fantasy leagues.
